Compressors

Compressors are essential components in refrigeration systems that compress low-pressure refrigerant gas to facilitate heat release and cooling. Various types of compressors include reciprocating, rotary, screw, centrifugal, and scroll compressors, each utilizing different mechanisms for refrigerant compression. Understanding these types helps in selecting the appropriate compressor for specific refrigeration needs.

COMPRESSORS

IN REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS

WHAT ARE
COMPRESSORS?
A refrigeration system compressor is a vital component that
compresses low-pressure refrigerant gas, increasing its
pressure and temperature. This process allows the refrigerant
to circulate through the system, releasing heat and enabling
the cooling effect.
TYPES OF COMPRESSORS
RECIPROCATING
COMPRESSORS

Reciprocating compressors use a piston driven by a crankshaft

to compress refrigerant.
The piston moves up and down in a cylinder, increasing
pressure and moving the refrigerant through the system.
ROTARY
COMPRESSORS

These compressors use a rotating mechanism (impeller or

roller) to compress refrigerant, with fewer moving parts,
making them quieter and more compact than reciprocating
compressors.
SCREW
COMPRESSORS

Screw compressors use two interlocking screws to compress

refrigerant, which enters at low pressure and is compressed as
it moves along the screw threads.
CENTRIFUGAL
COMPRESSORS

Centrifugal compressors use

high-speed rotating impellers to
increase refrigerant velocity,
converting it into pressure as it
passes through a diffuser.
SCROLL
COMPRESSORS

Scroll compressors use two interleaved

spiral-shaped scrolls, one fixed and the
other orbiting, compressing refrigerant
in sealed pockets between them.
