attitude, and behavior—to give students a sense of purpose for each part of the lesson.
2. Core Knowledge Presentation and Discussion (15 minutes)
Balanced Nutrition: Describe the food groups, essential nutrients, and hydration.
Physical Activity: Explain the importance of exercise for strength, flexibility, cardiovascular health, and
mood.
Mental Well-being: Cover aspects like stress management, social connections, and relaxation
techniques.
Guided Discussion (7 minutes): For each topic, ask students open-ended questions to deepen their
understanding:
Instructions: Each group discusses their scenario, identifies the challenges, and brainstorms three
health-promoting actions related to nutrition, exercise, and mental well-being.
Group Presentations: After discussion, each group shares their scenario and proposed solutions with
the class, explaining why each choice contributes to a healthier lifestyle.
Introduction (2 minutes): Explain that students will create a personal health plan with realistic goals
for balanced nutrition, exercise, and mental health practices.
Guided Planning (10 minutes): Provide a template and guide students through each section,
encouraging them to set one goal per area:
Nutrition Goal: Choose specific foods to eat more of (e.g., “Eat a fruit daily”).
Exercise Goal: Set an activity goal for the week (e.g., “Do 30 minutes of walking three times a week”).
Mental Health Goal: Include one activity for mental well-being (e.g., “Practice deep breathing every
day after school”).
Pair Sharing (3 minutes): Ask students to share one goal with a partner, helping to reinforce their
commitment.
“What is one new thing you learned about keeping your body healthy today?”
“Which health goal do you feel most excited to start working on?”
Class Commitment Board (3 minutes): Provide sticky notes and ask each student to write down one
health commitment they will try for the next week (e.g., “Drink 6–8 glasses of water each day”).
Collect these sticky notes to create a “Healthy Bodies Commitment” board as a visual reminder.
Exit Ticket (2 minutes): Have students write one personal takeaway and one question they still have
about maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
