2. ¿Cuándo se usa el presente simple y cuándo el presente continuo?

1. Para hábitos y rutinas: simple present.


I often go to the disco on Fridays.
A menudo voy a la discoteca los viernes.

Fíjate si en la frase hay ciertas palabras que te den una pista de que estamos ante una
acción habitual: at weekends (los fines de semana), on Mondays (los lunes), every day
(todos los días), twice a month (dos veces al mes), in the afternoons (por las tardes),
always (siempre), usually (normalmente), often (a menudo), sometimes (a veces), never
(nunca), hardly ever / rarely (raras veces), etc.

2. Para acciones que están ocurriendo ahora: present continuous.


Look! Paul is smoking!
¡Mira! ¡Paul está fumando!

Fíjate si en la frase hay ciertas palabras que te den una pista de que estamos ante una
acción que ocurre ahora o que no es habitual: now (ahora), right now (en este preciso
instante) at the moment (en estos momentos), at present (en el momento presente),
currently (actualmente), today (hoy), these days (estos días) etc. Y si no está ninguna de
estas palabras, fíjate en el contexto, como en la frase del ejemplo.

En todos los ejercicios que tienes a continuación has de elegir entre un tiempo u otro.
Reflexiona cada vez sobre el porqué de tu elección.

probably seen The Parthenon on television, but it looks even more impressive in real life. It stands on a
hill which overlooks the modern city.

de cerca. Está sobre una colina que domina la ciudad nueva.

postal a sus padres y Angela está leyendo una revista.
Como sabes, éste es un gran centro turístico. Cientos de extranjeros visitan Atenas todos los días.
Autobuses llenos de turistas americanos paran en la Plaza de la Constitución para ver a los soldados en
sus uniformes vistosos. Normalmente se quedan una hora y luego vuelven a sus autobuses y siguen para
la siguiente atracción. Ahora estoy viendo a un grupo numeroso. Están haciendo fotos y hablan fuerte.
