What is Authentic text?

refers to any material that is used in everyday life, not specifically designed
for teaching.

For example:
newspaper article -recipe- brochure from a travel agency -novel or short
story - website or blog post

Using authentic text in reading instruction

means that instead of just using textbooks or stories created specifically for
teaching, teachers use these real-life materials to help students learn to
read and understand language.

1. Real-world application: Students learn how to read and understand
texts they will actually encounter in their daily lives. For instance, reading a
menu or understanding a news article.

2. Engagement: Authentic texts are often more interesting and relevant to


students because they relate to things happening in the world or in their
lives. This can make reading more enjoyable.

3. Contextual learning: Students see how language is used in different


contexts, which helps them understand the meaning of words and phrases
better. For example, how a word is used in a novel might differ from how it’s
used in a magazine.

4. Variety: Authentic texts come in all shapes and sizes, offering a range of
language styles, vocabularies, and structures. This exposure helps
students become more versatile readers.

4.5 Application The teacher post a short text on the board and the student will summarize
(5 minutes) the main point of the text, Then they will write on a 1/2 sheet of paper .

The New Park Opens Downstairs

The city council has officially opened a new park in the downtown area. The
park which spans over 10 acres, features walking trails, a playground and
picnic areas. It aims to provide a green space for families and individuals to
enjoy outdoor activities. The grand opening ceremony included a
ribbon-cutting event and a community festival with food stalls and live
music. City officials hope the park will enhance the quality of life for
residents and attract more visitors to the downtown area.
