3 Damage Assessment
3.1 Damage Description
Cracks are found in the groove marked as Inspection Area in Figure 3-1 below.
Normal Position
Inspection Position
Any crack(s) of any length in the energy absorption system or anywhere in the backrest tube structure is
considered a damage that must be repaired following the instructions provided herein.
A cracked energy absorption system on either a IAI pilot (LH) or a co-pilot (RH) CS means that the seat is
not airworthy. When this is cracked, it must be repaired using the repair procedure described herein.
See ARS 25-001 for a detailed review of the impact on airworthiness [3].
4 Repair Procedure
4.1 General Guidelines
The repair kit P/N 959.30.01.140 contains the required spare parts for this repair as shown in Table 4-1.
Note the line instructions labelled with the corresponding step number followed by a “P”, designates this
instruction is specifically added by Pilatus. The Pilatus instructions do not alter the assembly procedure
given by IAI in any way.
0P. Remove the seat(s) to be repaired from the aircraft (see AMM, 25-10-01, Block 401).
1. The applicable drawings are 5PC41020/E, 5PC41800/K, 5PC41040/F, 5PC41030/J and 5PC41000/R.
Extracts from the repair drawing 5PC41000REPAIR/NEW have been included in the Figures section
according to each instruction reference.
3. For seats models -501 to -504 only, disassemble the Ultralock (10) bolts and nut (24)(25). See Figure

19. Position backrest sub-assembly on main tubes items (47) and (48) and attach it to the seat pan sub-
assembly. Use four rivets (21) on both attachments of item (5) as per Detail G. See Figure 10-7.
20. Ensure again that ball bearings are located in groove before tightening E.A.S. bolts (15), by applying a
torque of 48-50 lb·in. See Figure 10-5.
21. Use safety wire item (18) to secure bolts (15) as per Section D-D. See Figure 10-5.
22. Shoulder belt guide assembly: For seats -501 to –504, use bolts item (74) to connect item (46). For
seats -505 to –508, use bolts item (74) to connect item (46) and (71) as per Section H-H. See Figure

1. GENERAL
The Crew Seat (P/N 5PC41000-507/-508) will be checked for functional performance:
2. PURPOSE
3.2.1 Check the seat for free horizontal movement (FWD-AFT) between the
stoppers and locking in the right positions in the test stand rails while sitting
on the seat. Check the locks for easy engagement and disengagement in the
right positions.
3.2.2. Check a free vertical movement. Check the locks for easy engagement and
disengagement in the right positions.
3.2.3. Check for free angular movement of the backrest and verify backrest locking
in any selected position. (Applicable for seats –501 and –502 only).
3.2.4. Check the free tilting of the seat pan with no damage of the upholstery until
backrest and seat pan.
Upholstery will make contact.
