Document 2: The Clocktower’s Secret

In the heart of Veridia stood a clocktower, its face weathered but proud, ticking away
centuries. To passersby, it was merely a landmark, a backdrop for photographs or a meeting
point for lovers. But to Elias, it was a puzzle. As a child, he’d heard tales of a hidden
chamber within, where gears whispered truths about time itself. Now, at twenty-seven, he
was no longer a boy chasing legends—he was an engineer, skeptical yet curious.
Late one night, armed with a flashlight and a tattered journal from his grandfather, Elias
climbed the tower’s spiral staircase. The air grew colder with each step, the tick-tock of the
clock echoing like a pulse. At the top, he found not just gears but carvings—symbols that
matched the journal’s cryptic sketches. His fingers traced a star-shaped groove, and with a
click, a panel slid open.
Inside was no treasure, no gold or jewels. Instead, a single mirror hung on the wall, its
surface rippling like liquid. Elias stared, and his reflection stared back—not as he was, but
as he might become. Older, wiser, burdened. The journal had warned: “Time shows what
you seek, not what you expect.” He left the tower at dawn, the mirror’s image burned into
his mind, wondering if he’d found a gift or a curse.
