Form H – Host Family Letter

This letter should be neatly hand-written in black ink, in English. If you are going to a French-
speaking destination, then your letter should be in French.
If you are going to Denmark, your letter may also be typed and does not need to be hand-
written.

If you are going to a country with a language other than English or French, we encourage you to
write a little bit of your host letter in the language of the host country, if you can.

Do not include personal information such as last names, birth date, names of your
parents and siblings, email address, telephone number, hometown or street address, or
the name of your school, as your letter will be made public to prospective host families!

Start your letter with describing yourself - who are you?

Then use the letter to describe, what you like, what you usually do, why you are going on
exchange, talk about your family and what you do together, etc.

If you need some ideas for what to include, here are some suggestions:

· The kind of activities you like to participate in with your friends and family
· Your family members and your relationship with them
· What you do on a typical weekday/weekend, (e.g. work, activities, entertainment)
· Your primary hobbies and what you enjoy about them
· Your favorite school activities, clubs
· Your hopes and dreams for the future, what inspires you, special areas of interest
· Why you choose your host country

Your letter should be at least 400 words.

This letter will be used for finding a host family for you and WILL be given to your host family
directly. They will be very interested in learning about you as a person, about your family and the
activities that you enjoy
It is important to describe yourself interesting, informative and accurate. Your host family will be
surprised if you are not like the person they read about in the letter!

Don’t forget to:

· Start your letter with Dear Host Family
· Thank your host family for opening their home to you
· Sign your first name only
