III. TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCEDURE

A. Activating Prior Short Review

Knowledge The teacher forms a short recap about the previous topic. Provided with an illustration of numbers and its written form.
B.Establishing Lesson Day 1 (within 40 minutes)
Purpose
1. Explicitation

Presentation of new lesson, Compare numbers using relation symbols ( >, <, or = )

Let’s Analyze!

The movie of Kris earned a total of ₱ 8,721, while Bea’s earned ₱ 8,970.

 Which among the two numbers is greater?

 Which among the two numbers is lesser?

The teachers explains that, we can use symbols to show the expressions “greater than,” “less than” and
“equal to.”

These are the symbols in comparing numbers:

≥ means greater than

≤ means less than
= means equal to

8,970 is greater than 8,721. This can be shown as 8,970 ≥ 8,721.

The teacher provides an illustration.

Let us compare the two quantities.

How many hundreds, tens, and ones are there in A and B?

Hundreds Tens Ones

A 3 1 6
B 2 3 7

Look at the hundreds digit.

316 is greater than 237 316 ≥ 237
237 is less than 316 237 ≤ 316

C.Developing and
Deepening Understanding 2. Lesson Activity

Lets try!
Compare the numbers using ≤, ≥, or =.

1. 7,250 2,816

2. 5,694 8,239

3. 6,627 7,700

4. 818 818

5. 4,911 4,909
Day 2 (within 40 minutes)

1. Explicitation
The teacher explains in comparing numbers, compare the value of the digits in the leftmost place.
 ≥ means greater than
 ≤ means less than
 = means equal to

2. Lesson Activity (Interactive Activity)

Tell me the symbol!

The teacher used flashcards for the instructional material.

B. Making Generalizations Day 3 (within 40 minutes)

1. Explicitation
The teacher explains in comparing numbers, compare the value of the digits in the leftmost place.
 ≥ means greater than
 ≤ means less than
 = means equal to

2. Lesson Activity

Day 4 (within 40 minutes)

Quiz:
Use ≥, ≤, or = to compare columns A and B.
A B
1. 600 + 20 + 7 ______ 500 + 20 + 7
2. 231 ______ two hundred, thirty
3. 3,000 + 400 + 30 + 9 ______ three thousand, forty-nine
4. Four hundred, twenty-five ______ 425
5. 9,208 ______ nine thousand, twenty-eight
6. 755 ______ seven hundred, fifty-five
7. 2,000 + 400 + 30 + 3 ______ 2,000 + 200 + 30 + 3
8. 5 tens, 9 ones ______ 59
9. 3,217 ______ 8,321
10.8,756 ______ 6,453
