Answer Key Quiz 4 PRPC

The document is a quiz for the Principles of Reinforced and Prestressed Concrete course at Don Honorio Ventura State University, containing three situations involving the design and analysis of concrete columns under various loads. It includes calculations for axial loads, dimensions, and reinforcement requirements for both rectangular and spiral columns. The quiz assesses students' understanding of concrete design principles using specific material strengths and loading conditions.

Situation 1: (30 pts)

A rectangular concrete column is to carry a total axial service load of 1311 KN,
60% of which is live load. Use f’c = 21 MPa and fy = 415 MPa. It is to be reinforced
with 25mm vertical bars.

a. Determine the required design axial load of the column

b. If b = 400mm, determine the other dimension of the column using steel ratio
of 1.25%
c. Design the required number of longitudinal bars if it is required to have
equal number of bars in each face.
