Course Objectives
This course will cover the analysis and implementation of algorithms used to solve linear algebra
problems in practice. This course will enable students to acquire further skills in the techniques of linear
algebra, as well as understanding of the principles underlying the subject. This course will prepare
students for further courses in mathematics and/or related disciplines (e.g. engineering, economics,
actuarial science, etc.).

Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

1. Solve systems of linear equations using multiple methods, including Gaussian elimination
and matrix inversion.
2. Carry out matrix operations, including inverses and determinants.
3. Demonstrate understanding of the concepts of vector space and subspace.

1
1 It is essential that the syllabus announced at the beginning of the term is not changed except when necessary. When a requirement
occurs, the syllabus can be changed by the instructor of the course by notifying this situation in writing or verbally beforehand. It is
students’ responsibility to follow the current syllabus.
1
4. Demonstrate understanding of linear independence, span, and basis.
5. Determine eigenvalues and eigenvectors and solve eigenvalue problems.
6. Apply principles of matrix algebra to linear transformations.
Contribution of the Course to the Program
1. Adequate knowledge in mathematics, science, and engineering subjects; ability to use theoretical and
applied information in these areas to model and solve engineering problems.
2. Ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems; ability to select and apply
proper analysis and modeling methods for this purpose.

Course Structure

This course will be carried out 3 hours a week, both face-to-face in the university and online via Microsoft Teams.
Office hours will be held both face-to-face. Students who have questions can have a face-to-face meeting with the
instructor during the office hours.

Course Policies
Communication Channels and Methods: You must use Itslearning or MS Teams messaging system for your
questions outside the class hours. You are responsible for every announcement made in class or on Itslearning.
Usage of Digital Tools: Mobile Technologies: Mobile technologies such as mobile phones, tablet computers, laptop
computers can only be used for teaching purposes. Please respect the lecturer and your friends by turning off the
volume or turning off your mobile phone.
Cell Phone: Your cell phones should be muted or turned off before class. There may be some important situations
in our lives (health, family, personal) in such cases, please turn your phone to vibration and if you really need to
talk, leave the class and talk outside and come back to the lesson.
Using electronic tools such as mobile phones, calculators, and tablets are not allowed during the exams.
Attendance: The “NA” rule will be announced later according to the BAU Senate decision.
Disabled Student Support: It is my aim to create an inclusive course that is accessible to all my students. If you
have a disability, please feel free to discuss it with me directly to find the best possible ways to assist you in
completing this course successfully. In addition, the Disabled Students’ Unit provides support to enrich your
academic and college experience.
Oral and Written Communication Ethics: Since you are training to become a professional, we always expect you
to express yourself respectfully and cordially in your communication with your friends and with the course
instructor. When writing emails, students should give information on their departments, name of course, and student
ID number.
Privacy and Copyright: The courses will be held in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Law.

Matters Needing Attention

• Make sure that you read all weekly course materials.
• Participate positively in classroom activities and discussions.
• Attend the classes actively every week.
• If you have a health issue or any personal problem before or during any exam, then you must send your excuse
(doctor report etc.) to your department secretary.
• There will be a make-up exam for the midterm exam and retake exam for final exam for the students with valid
excuses according to BAU regulations. No make-up for missing quizzes.
• The relative grading system is used to give the proper letter grade to each student. The grades are given based
on the student's score compared to the others in the class.
Academic Integrity, Cheating and Plagiarism

ARTICLE 25 – (1) In case it is doubled that a student cheats or attempts to cheat, commits plagiarism or similar
violations defined in the applicable disciplinary regulation in any exam, assignment or other assessment activities,
a disciplinary proceeding is brought against the student. Such activity is not assessed during the proceedings. A
student who is found guilty is assigned zero point in addition to the disciplinary punishment. If the student is found
innocent because of disciplinary proceeding, the exam taken by the student shall be assessment or a make-up exam
or activity is provided.
