CATP-Competence, Awareness & Training Procedure
1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to ensure that employees have the necessary competencies, awareness, and training to
effectively perform their roles, meet the requirements of the Quality Management System (QMS), Environmental
Management System (EMS), and Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) as per ISO 9001, ISO
14001, and ISO 45001.
2. SCOPE
This procedure applies to all personnel involved in operations that can impact the effectiveness of the QMS, EMS, and
OHSMS within the organization.

4. DEFINITIONS
4.1. COMPETENCE: The ability to apply knowledge and skills to achieve intended results.
4.2. AWARENESS: Understanding of the relevance of activities to the organization’s objectives and
compliance obligations.
4.3. TRAINING: Structured programs designed to develop the competence of personnel.
5. RESPONSIBILITIES
5.1. TOP MANAGEMENT: Ensures the availability of resources and support for Competence, Awareness, &
Training Activities.
5.2. HR DEPARTMENT/TRAINING COORDINATOR: Responsible for identifying training needs, organizing training
programs, & maintaining records.
5.3. DEPARTMENT MANAGERS: Responsible for ensuring that personnel in their departments meet the
necessary Competence & Awareness requirements.
5.4. EMPLOYEES: Responsible for participating in required training and maintaining competence in their
roles.
6. PROCEDURE
6.1. COMPETENCE REQUIREMENTS
6.1.1. The organization will identify and define the competence requirements for roles that impact the
effectiveness of the QMS, EMS, and OHSMS.
6.1.2. Competence requirements will be based on the needs of the organization, job descriptions, legal and
regulatory requirements, and the potential impact of operations on the QMS, EMS, and OHSMS.
6.2. COMPETENCE ASSESSMENT
6.2.1. A process will be in place to evaluate the current competence of personnel in relation to the identified
requirements.
6.2.2. Assessment of competence will include reviewing education, qualifications, experience, training
records, and performance evaluations.
6.3. TRAINING NEEDS IDENTIFICATION
6.3.1. Based on the results of competence assessments and the needs of the organization, training needs will
be identified.

6.3.2. Specific training programs will be designed for developing competence, enhancing skills, and meeting
regulatory requirements.
6.3.3. Training needs will be reviewed annually or whenever there are changes in operations, legal
requirements, or technology.
6.4. AWARENESS REQUIREMENTS
6.4.1. Employees will be made aware of the relevance and importance of their activities in relation to the
QMS, EMS, & OHSMS.
6.4.2. Employees will be informed about the implications of non-conformance, risks & opportunities
associated with their work, and how their activities affect the environment and occupational health &
safety.
6.5. TRAINING DELIVERY AND RESOURCES
6.5.1. Training will be provided through internal or external resources, ensuring that training meets the
competence requirements.
6.5.2. Training programs may include classroom training, on-the-job training, e-learning, and external
courses.
6.5.3. Training programs will be reviewed and updated to ensure their ongoing relevance and effectiveness.
6.6. TRAINING RECORDS
6.6.1. Training records will be maintained for all personnel to ensure proper documentation of training
completed, dates, and assessment results.
6.6.2. The HR Department / Training Coordinator will maintain a central training record database, accessible
for audits and compliance checks.
6.7. EVALUATING EFFECTIVENESS OF TRAINING
6.7.1. The effectiveness of training will be evaluated through performance assessments, feedback surveys,
and reviewing whether the training objectives have been met.
6.7.2. A follow-up process will be in place to address any gaps identified during the evaluation phase.
6.8. REVIEW & IMPROVEMENT
6.8.1. The Competence, Awareness, and Training procedure will be reviewed at regular intervals to ensure it
is effective and aligned with the needs of the organization.
6.8.2. Any changes in the QMS, EMS, or OHSMS, such as new legislation, technological advancements, or
organizational changes, will be evaluated to determine their impact on competence & training needs.

control are competent based on education, training, or experience.

and aware of their impact on the environment.
8.3. ISO 45001:2018, CLAUSE 7.2: Ensures employees are competent, trained, and aware of health and
safety risks associated with their tasks.

9. CONCLUSION
This procedure ensures that the organization complies with the competence, awareness, and training
requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. By systematically assessing and enhancing competence,
raising awareness, and providing necessary training, the organization ensures it can effectively meet the needs
of its stakeholders, maintain compliance, and improve operational performance.
