DCC113 - COMPUTER APPLICATIONS AND KEYBOARDING

YEAR 1, SEM 1
INSTRUCTIONS

1. All working should be saved in a folder with your Admission number as the folder name

2. Within this folder should be other three folders namely MS WORD, EXCEL and
POWERPOINT.

3. Each project should be saved in its specific folder

4. You should present your projects for marking in a compact disc (CD), write your name and
admission number on the compact disc

1. MS WORD PROJECT (25 mks)

Nairobi County intends to implement an information technology hub, you have been asked to
write a 5 page report to the national government press in favour of the motion. The report
should be in support of implementing the information technology hub in the region. The
following specifications should be met:

i) All topics and subtopics should be bold and underlined, with a font size of 17”. The rest
of the font should have a font size of 12”

ii) Using headers and footers, include the system date at the top right and page numbers on
the bottom center

iii) Page two should have a Landscape orientation. On this page, include a tabular
representation of the possible financial implications of implementing the technology
hub (atleast 5 columns and 7 rows)

iv) Use word arts of your choice to write the topics on page 3

v) The forth page should have pictures within text, use suitable text wrapping and picture
layouts to position the pictures as either in text, or behind text.

vi) Save the document as “Nairobi technology hub” in MSWORD folder

2. MS EXCEL PROJECT A (10 mks)

The use spreadsheet makes it easier to perform data organization and computation.
“Mapato hardware stores” intends to create an organizational spreadsheet for its two
branches. Consider the tables below showing the stock details and compute the financial
implications. Save your workbook as “Mapato”

Your work book should contain two worksheets namely, “Rongai branch” and“Kitengela
branch”

Create the tables below in the worksheet – “Rongai branch” and “Kitengela branch”

Using the data calculate the following values using formulas

i) Indicate against each item on the performance column if they made a loss or a profit
ii) Compute the amount of profit or loss for each item

MS EXCEL PROJECT B (15 mks)

Consider the table below showing students performance in different units and perform the
operations below. Save your workbook as “Sajam” in Excel folder

Your work book should contain two worksheets namely, “student mark” and “Performance”

Create the table below in the worksheet – “student mark”

Using the data calculate the following values using formulas

i) Number of units done by each student
ii) Total mark for each student, least mark and best mark for each student
iii) On a different worksheet (Performance), create four columns namely, “Student name”,
“Totals”, “Average score” and “Grade”
iv) Calculate the average mark for each student
v) Use the formula Totals = average score * # of units to fill the totals
vi) Indicate the grade for each student using the criteria: More than “70” = “A” between 60 and 70
= “B” , between 50 and 60 = “C” less than that = “F”
vii) Add a chart(in a separate worksheet) showing the student performance, indicating the students
name and average mark scored

POWERPOINT PROJECT (20 mks)

Title: "Designing an Engaging PowerPoint Presentation for Social Impact Awareness"

Objective:

To create a professional, visually appealing PowerPoint presentation that educates, informs, and
persuades an audience about a pressing social issue.

Project Details:

1. Topic Selection:

• You are required a topic related to a current social issue (e.g., climate change, mental health
awareness, digital addiction, education equity, etc.).
• Topics must be unique for each student.

2. Project Requirements:

The PowerPoint presentation must include:

1. Title Slide:
o Project title
o Student names and ID numbers
o Date and course information
2. Introduction Slide:
o Brief overview of the chosen topic

o Statement of purpose
3. Background/Problem Statement (2-3 slides):
o Explanation of the issue
o Statistics and supporting data (use citations)
4. Analysis (2-3 slides):
o Causes or contributing factors
o Social, economic, or environmental implications
5. Solutions/Recommendations (2-3 slides):
o Practical solutions to address the issue
o Examples of successful initiatives (if applicable)
6. Call to Action Slide:
o Persuasive message encouraging audience involvement
7. Conclusion Slide:
o Summary of key points
8. Reference Slide(s):
o List of sources in proper format (APA, MLA, etc.)

3. Design Guidelines:

• Use professional templates with consistent fonts, colors, and layouts.


• Incorporate visual aids such as charts, graphs, images, and infographics.
• Use animations and transitions sparingly to maintain professionalism.
• Adhere to the "6x6 Rule" (no more than six words per line and six lines per slide).
