Detailed Lesson Plan in General Mathematics

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
1. evaluate function;
2. solve problems involving function;
3. develop cooperation during discussion and group activity.

II. Subject Matter :

Topic: “Evaluating Functions”
References:
Materials: Visual aids, calculator, scissors, laptop
Value Focus: Cooperation
PPST:Domain 4 – Curriculum and Planning
Time Frame: 1 hour

III. Learning Activities

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Review
In order to refresh your memory from our
past lesson, let us have an activity, I have here a
puzzle.Listen to the mechanics.
1. For every number there is a corresponding
question
2. Once you answer correctly I will take the
number and you will see our lesson for
today.
Questions:
1. What is the relation where each
element in the domain is related to 1. It is a function ma’am.

rule?
2. What is the variable that is known as 2. The input value is the x variable

given graph is a function?
5. What is the set of all possible values 5. It is the domain ma’am
that the variable x can take?

Very good.

4. Motivation
Now, let us have an activity called “Function
Machine”. The class will be divided into three
groups. Each group will be given materials
needed in this activity (manila paper, marker
and tape).
Listen to the mechanics.
1. I’ll be presenting a function machine
and a set of input to be process in the
machine.
2. Every member will help each other to
find the output in the given machine.
The first group to write and raise the
correct output will gain 1 point.
3. The group that will have the highest
score will be the winner.

Questions:
1) If 7 goes into the machine, what number
comes out?
2) If 13 goes into the machine, what number
comes out?
3) If -4 goes into the machine, what number

4) If 𝑥 goes into the machine, what comes

out? ANSWER:
5) If 2𝑥 goes into the machine, what comes
1) 2(7) + 5 = 19
out?
2) 2(13) + 5 = 31

3) 2(−4 ¿ × 2 + 5 = −3

4) 2(𝑥) + 5 = 2 x+5

5) 2(2𝑥) + 5 = 4𝑥+ 5
