1. COMPREHENSION PASSAGE - 20

1. Makena’s grandmother was too weak and poor to raise her, and her mother had eloped
with her husband whom she said did not like children.

2. Apart from bringing her gifts, Makena’s mother did not want to discuss with her any
important thing.

3. Her aunt was the chairlady of the local women’s organization and anyone who displeased
her risked being denied a chance to get a loan.

4. Cruel- she beats and mistreats Makena.


Dishonest – lied to people that Makena fractured her hand on the water container.

5.Makena was beaten, denied education, subjected to child labour and denied payment for
the hard work she did.

6. Was a crowd gathering fast and did Aunt Marina panick?
