An article is a type of a determiner. It is a word used before a noun that shows whether you
are referring to a particular thing or to a general example of something. The indefinite article
is ‘a’ or ‘an’

1. We use an before vowels for example:
(a) An apple
(b) An empty bottle.
(b) I saw an eagle.
(c) Grandmother is an old woman.
2. All other letters of the alphabet are consonants. We use a before a consonant for
example:
(a) A bottle, a lamp, a mode of transport.
(b) That is a house.
(c) We built a flat together.
