1. Insert Pivot table


2. Drag “Job Titles” in Rows, Case Status in Filter, and job title in values as “count of job title”.
3. From the Filter dropdown, select “certified”.
4. From the row labels, apply “Value filter” and apply “top 10”.
5. Do sorting in descending order for “count of job title”.

Steps:

1. First, insert a new column in the main sheet “H-1B disclosure data” as “denied_count” using the
formula “=IF(B2="Denied", 1, 0)”.
2. Insert Pivot table
3. Drag “EMPLOYER_STATE” in Rows, Drag “denied_count” in values as “sum of denied_count”,
and also drag “case_status” in value as “count of case_status”.
4. Go to the “pivot table analyze tab” and click on “fields, items, & Sets”. Click on “calculated field”.
5. Insert “Denied Rate” and calculate as (sum of denied_count/ count of case_status).
6. Got the “denied Rate” in percent.
7. Now in any cell, use the formula =MAX(D3:D62) to find the maximum denied rate.
8. Use the INDEX and MATCH functions to find the state. =INDEX(A3:D62,MATCH(I10,A4:E62,0))
5. What industries are in the top 5 percentile of applications?

1. Insert the Pivot table in a new sheet.


2. Drag “NAICS Title” in Rows, and Drag “CASE_STATUS” in values as “count of CASE_STATUS”.
3. Click on the dropdown on the “count of CASE_STATUS”  Click on “value field setting” and click
on “show value as”.
4. Select the value as “% of column total”.
5. Sort the data in descending order by “count of CASE_STATUS”.
6. We will get TOP 5% of the industries.
6. Does the month of the application play any role in to denied process? What about decision

2. Drag “Case submitted” in columns, and Drag “CASE_STATUS” and both Rows as well in values as
“count of CASE_STATUS”.
3. Go to the “pivot table analyze tab” and click on Group selection and Group by “Months”.
4. Highlight the count of denied applications.

Similarly, for the Decision Date:

1. Insert the Pivot table in a new sheet.


2. Drag “Decision Date” in columns, and Drag “CASE_STATUS” and both Rows as well in values
as “count of CASE_STATUS”.
3. Go to the “pivot table analyze tab” and click on Group selection and Group by “Months”.
4. Highlight the count of denied applications.
