Media Minds: Colloquium on Media, Society, and Innovation

Sharda School of Media, Film & Entertainment, Sharda University

FOREWORD
In a world where media is both an enabler of progress and a mirror reflecting
societal transformations, critical engagement with its evolving role has never been
more essential. Media Minds: Colloquium on Media, Society, and Innovation is
being organized by Sharda School of Media, Film & Entertainment, Sharda
University on 4th April, 2025 which will offer an academic platform where
emerging scholars will analyse, debate, and innovate within the dynamic influences
of media, technology, and society. This colloquium is not just a forum for
discussion but a breeding ground for fresh perspectives that shape the media
backdrop of tomorrow.

The significance of media extends far beyond traditional communication—it

influences governance, fuels activism, drives cultural narratives, and redefines
human interactions. As digitalization accelerates, media consumption patterns
shift, and ethical concerns gain prominence, young researchers play a pivotal role
in dissecting these complexities. Through rigorous inquiry and creative exploration,
the contributions in this volume reflect a keen understanding of the challenges and
opportunities in contemporary media ecosystems.

The abstracts within this volume generally explore six major themes, with each
touching upon some of the most crucial facets of media and society:

Cultural Production and the Creative Industry – Dissecting television's role

in mediating cultural expressions, identity politics, and new modes of creative
practice.

Digital Communication and Society – It includes social media, cyber security,

the role of OTT platforms, and digital governance.

Technological Innovations in Audio-Visual Media – This looks into

advancements in audio-visual media production technology, new strategies for
digital marketing, and ethical dilemmas in journalism.
Gender Dynamics in Media – These involve gender representation, LGBTQIA+
visibility, and media legislative frameworks influencing inclusivity.

Indigenous Strategies for Communication in Development – Others have

examined how traditional knowledge is applied, how participatory communication
can be employed, and small-scale experimental studies can be carried out to
promote sustainable development.

Political Communication and Global Media – This addresses the role of

media in governance, propaganda, and conflict resolution, as well as its roles as a
mediator in global communication.

We take immense pride in presenting this ISBN Abstract Proceedings Book,

published by Kalindi Prakashan, which encapsulates a diverse range of student-led
research, theoretical insights, and creative endeavors. These abstracts navigate
through critical themes such as political communication, gender dynamics, digital
media ethics, indigenous strategies in communication, and innovations in audio-
visual storytelling. The depth and breadth of these contributions highlight how
media continues to redefine social consciousness and global discourse.

The main objectives of the colloquium are:

Provide a platform for students from across India to present their research,
creative projects, and critical insights, fostering academic growth and
recognition.

Facilitate the sharing of diverse perspectives, encouraging collaborative

learning and dialogue on contemporary issues in media and communication.

Enhance students' ability to critically analyze the impact of digital

transformation on media and society, and its role in shaping narratives and
addressing societal challenges.

As you explore these abstracts, we invite you to engage with the thought-
provoking ideas within these pages. May this volume inspire further research,
foster dialogue, and ignite a deeper appreciation for the transformative power
of media in shaping our societies.
