Magsombol

Ōbí is the current Teaching Associate at the Department of


Anthropology, University of the Philippines Diliman. Before
immersing herself in fieldwork, she actively participated in various
literary competitions, earning awards named after national martyrs
and heroes. She won the Gawad Monico Atienza for Critical
Essay (2023) from the UP Department of Filipino and Philippine
Literature, the Gawad Emman Lacaba for Poetry (2014) from the
College Editors Guild of the Philippines, and the Gawad Edgar
Jopson for Privilege Speech (2014) from the National Union of
Students in the Philippines. She has also been accepted as a writing
fellow in several national writing workshops, including the Amelia
Lapeña Bonifacio Writing Fellowship for Microfiction (2022),
Rene Villanueva Writing Fellowship for Children's Poetry
(2023), and the Rogelio Sicat Writing Fellowship for Dagli
(2024). As a former literature instructor, she was selected as a
Gémino H. Abad Teaching Fellow for Poetry and Literary Criticism. She also ventured into
translation, being chosen as a Bienvenido Lumbera Translator Fellow for local and international
languages. In 2023, she received the E. Arsenio Manuel Best Paper Award (2024)from
Ugnayang Pang-Aghamtao. Currently, she is actively engaged in fieldwork with the UP Diliman
Institute of Biology and the UP Manila College of Public Health. She has conducted and
continues to conduct fieldwork in Ifugao, Aurora, Siargao, Laguna, and Mindoro. Her research
interests lie in anthrozoology, and she has worked with various species, including cats (Felis
catus) in urban Diliman, carabaos (Bubalus bubalis carabanesis) in the coastal areas of
Dimanayat, Aurora, palm civets (Paradoxurus philippinensis) in Mount Matutum,
Polomolok, South Cotabato, and oriental small-clawed otters (Aonyx cinereus) in Palawan.
