Refer to the general aim of defragmentation in your answer.
4.8 Scanning is used to convert images and other data into digital format.
4.8.1 Give ONE way to convert an image into digital format, besides using a scanner.
4.8.2 Explain how you would change a setting in the scanner software, so that the scanned
image will take up the least amount of storage space.
4.10 What type of storage (i.e. storage location) could a person use, to ensure that all his/her
devices always have the latest version of the data?
4.11 Sometimes a flash drive reports that it is not formatted, but you know that it contains data.

4.11.2 Give ONE troubleshooting tip to follow in this situation.
4.13 It is sometimes necessary to increase the amount of disk space available on a drive.
4.13.1 Give the name of a utility provided by Windows that finds files that can be removed
and then allows the user to choose which files to remove.
4.13.2 Give ONE other way to make more disk space available, besides compressing files
or using the utility described above.
4.14 Consider the specification of a hardware item below and answer the questions that follow:
6
Question 5: Network Technologies
5.4 Explain, by referring to the screenshot below, how one may deduce (conclude) that the
computer on which the screenshot was taken, is connected to a network.
5.5 One advantage of fibre cable over the ‘normal’ type of cable used to connect computers
in a LAN, is that fibre cable can span longer distances.
5.5.1 Name the ‘normal’ type of cable referred to above, i.e. that is usually used to connect
computers in a LAN.
5.5.2 Give TWO other advantages of fibre cable over the ‘normal’ type of cable, besides
the fact that it can span longer distances.
5.5.3 Fibre is mainly used as a backbone.
What is a backbone in this context?
5.6 Give ONE reason why it is sometimes necessary to increase the number of access points
in a wireless network (for example in a school).
5.7 Consider the specifications of a hardware item used for networking computers below and
answer the questions that follow:
100/1000
Supports 802.11
5.7.1 What is the maximum data transmission speed that this item can support? Also give
the unit in which this speed is measured in your answer.
5.7.2 What does the 802.11 specification refer to?

Question 6: Information Management
6.1 Study the question below that appeared in a questionnaire, and answer the questions that
follow:
6.3 Consider the website address below and answer the questions that follow:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fake_news
7.1 How does one add a background image to all the pages of a document, by inserting the
image only once, and without using a header or footer?
7.2 Explain why the use of styles in a document makes it quick and easy to apply consistent
formatting throughout the document.
7.3 Name the Word feature that makes it possible to have pages with different orientations
(portrait and landscape) within the same document.
7.4 What additional information would be conveyed, if one specified a date format as
DDDD DD MM YY, instead of as DD MM YY?
8
7.5 What would be the practical advantage of selecting (‘ticking’) the check box shown below,
when inserting the FileName field in a Word document?
7.6 Name the different indents that were used to format the extract shown below:
7.7 How can the designer of a Word form ensure that the person who fills in the form will only be
able to use the Tab key to move between the form fields themselves?
7.8 Examine the spreadsheet below, which is used to record the tickets sold by learners in
grades 10–12 for a lucky draw, and answer the question that follows.
Give TWO replacements that must be made to the function below, so that it will count the
total number of tickets sold by the grade 11 and 12 learners.
= COUNTIF(B3:B14,"11",C3:C14)

7.9 Give a tool that Access provides to display only certain records, besides using a query.
7.10 The Access query below is supposed to display the firstnames, surnames and grades of
learners in grades 8 and 9 who participated in a school play.
Study the design of this query and give THREE reasons why it will NOT display the
information as intended.
[15]
SECTION C
The school has a shop which sells stationary and school uniforms to learners. To date they have
not made use of any computer technology, but have now realised it is time to computerise their
operations in the shop.
8.1 One of the priorities is to install a POS (Point-of-Sale) system in the shop.

business (shop), besides any issues related to speed.
8.1.2 List TWO advantages of using RFID tags instead of bar codes in the shop.
8.2 The manager of the school shop wants to use his laptop to do a PowerPoint presentation for
new parents to the school.
He found that, unlike his laptop (which only has a single HDMI port), the school’s data
projector does not have a HDMI port.
8.2.1 Name the older type of video connector that is most likely available on the school’s
data projector.
8.2.2 Suggest ONE way to connect the laptop to this data projector.
8.2.3 Describe TWO benefits that HDMI provides over older types of connections.
8.3 A bar-code reader was connected to the computer, and it was installed automatically.
8.3.1 What name is given to this process or technology, where new devices connected to
a computer are automatically detected, configured and installed?
8.3.2 What type (category) of software is a driver?
8.3.3 Briefly describe the function of a driver.
10
8.4 Backing up the shop’s data is critical. Consideration is being given to backing up the data to
a storage service in ‘the cloud’. This is like an internet-connected version of a file server.
8.4.1 Name or describe TWO other types of servers besides a file server.
8.4.2 The shop manager wants to know if cloud storage is the same thing as
cloud computing.
Explain the difference between these concepts.
8.7 An assistant was found to be downloading videos from the internet. This type of thing should
be covered by the AUP that was set up for the school shop.
8.7.2 Give TWO other things that should be covered in the shop’s AUP.
8.8 Consider the extract from a spreadsheet below, which works out the cost of items ordered in
the shop:
8.8.1 The following IF function was used in cell D4 to work out the price after discount has
been applied.
=IF(B4>=10,90%*C4,C4)
Write down (in your own words) under what circumstances (‘how’) a customer
qualifies for discount, and what discount a customer can expect to receive.
11
8.8.2 The following formula was used to (correctly) calculate the Price plus VAT
in cell E4:
=D4+15%*D4
Explain why it would be better to use the following formula instead:
=D4+B1*D4
8.8.3 The manager successfully used the formula =D4+B1*D4 in cell E4.
Explain why a problem will occur if he copies the formula down to the rest of the
cells in the column, and suggest how the problem can be fixed (without using a
different formula).
