They used to say that Practice makes perfect. I agree it. I travelled to Spain. I was in Madrid a very renown region because of its
image in the football. There were not many Black People where I lived in Madrid. So I had to work harder and harder in order to live
peacefully and to earn money which is among one of my visit in that country. I tried to have friend and make relationship. I was
working as a plumber .I also had to be a good plumber for having more contracts . Then I used to destruct and repair my tap , bath,
in my flat for having more experiences. I did not regret. I became a very good plumber. Yet when I left from my native country I was
not . If I did not effort I would not have work or I could not repair anything related to my job. Thus I believe that practice makes
perfect or God helps who helps himself.
I saw any types of discrimination or racism . But I did not mind. I believe in myself. One day I got a job offer from a company. I was
happy because I knew that might be another door of succes in my life. I was surprised when a man called Juan told to the
headmaster of the company that I am not a good plumber . Then I also have to prove that I am among the best plumber. After I
train all the week . I repair and destruct every kind of tools ( taps , bath, tubes...).
The day I have to go for my first test in the company, I was afraid a bit but thanks to God I finally succeed because of my training. I

TEXT : History of drugs , and basics of Pharmacotherapy

Doctors have always divided themselves into surgeons and physicians. The surgeon’s tool is the scalpel; the
physician’s tool has traditionally been the drug. The surgeons were originally barber surgeons who cut
people’s hair and performed other cutting procedures ( such as draining abscesses) at the same time. The
physicians thought that they were cleverer and more cultured than the surgeons. In fact, people did not
think of surgeons as doctors at all! In ancient times physicians did not touch the human body directly. They
decided what was wrong with the patient by asking questions and looking at body fluids such as urine,

Tisa had many ideas of what she wanted to be when she grew up. She was
always thinking of something unusual. “I have decided that I want to be a bus
driver,” she told her grandmother one day. Granny smiled, but she did not laugh.
“I have never seen a woman driving a bus, my dear,” she said. “But I have heard
about it on the radio. Women sometimes drive buses in cities.”

When Tisa told her mother about her idea, her mother laughed. “Oh Tisa, what
funny dreams you have in your head!” but this did not stop Tisa dreaming. Could
she be a bus driver one day?

Tisa had always enjoyed being on buses since she was quite young. Her father
was a bus driver. She liked to sit next to him on the bus. She watched him
carefully to see how he drove the bus and operated the pedals. When Tisa told
him about her plan, her father sighed. “Tisa, I am a bus driver. Your brother can
be a bus driver when he grows up. But not you! Do you forget you are a girl? “

… But her father’s remarks did not make her abandon her project. She was just
going to do the things she enjoyed doing. She liked to make toy cars for herself
and her brother. This time, she would become what she wanted to be: a bus
driver.

Gender Wage Gap : Are you paid as much as a man if he had your job?
How much money are you losing because you’re not paid fairly? Most working women today,
if they’re over thirty, would probably say : “Quite a lot ! Anyway, men would be getting more”.
Their intuitive sense is borne out by the facts. Women working full time – not part time, not
on maternity leave, not as consultants – still earn only 77 cents for every full-time male dollar. This
wage gap exists between
5 women and men working at every economic level, from waitresses to corporate lawyers, from
nurse’s aides to CEOs.
Very few individual women can ever find out exactly what their male counterparts would be
making in the same job. But that yawning gap between the average male and average female
paycheck is a pretty good clue that he’d be paid more.
10 Few women think about it this way. Women don’t talk about what they should have earned,
or how each year’s missing lump of money – whether one thousand, ten thousand, or fifty
thousand – would have added up over lifetime. Surely that attitude is personally sensible: no sane
person wants to worry about what she believes she can’t have. But we’re not going to close the
gender wage gap until women realize how much it’s costing us and our families.
15 Of course, your losses aren’t subtracted in one lump sum. That money disappears over
time, in small cuts to your paycheck. Maybe you were hired for $ 1,000 less than the young man
who took the same entry level job. Or you got a smaller year-end bonus because you and the man
working alongside you were awarded bonuses as percentage of salary – and his salary is larger.
Or you had to wait longer for a promotion because you had to prove yourself first, while your
male colleague was promoted and given a raise based on his
20 potential. Or you were passed over for a project that would have brought in a large bonus, because
the boss assumed you had to go home and cook for your family.
Each such loss accrues. Many of us have seen those investment charts that show how
much $1,000 invested today would turn into over ten or twenty or thirty years. That’s what happens
to the money you weren’t paid: it doesn’t just add up, it multiplies over time.
25 Why do you and other women lose so much money? Decades ago, women used to hear
that it was because women weren’t as well-educated as men, hadn’t worked as long as men, didn’t
work as hard as men, or really didn’t need the money because they were just working until they got
married. That’s no longer true. For decades, women have been graduating from college at the
same rate as men – and have even surpassed men in recent years. Women work as hard as men.
Women are often supporting children, and maybe a disabled or
30 unemployed husband, and need the money just as much as men do. Often, married couples
rely on both
paychecks. The only demographic difference between male and female workers is a small, and
closing, difference in the length of years women have worked in their careers. That cannot account
for 23 cents.

Africa’s jobless youth cast a t a shadow over e r economic growth

African governments are confronting unemployment in many different ways. In Senegal,

with 200,000 Senegalese joining the labor market each year, a programme was launched in
February 2013 to create 30,000 jobs within a year. The African Development Bank is financing
some of Senegal’s se s self-employment programs for y r youth and women.
Youths account for 60% of all of Africa’s jobless, according to the World Bank. In North
Africa, the youth unemployment rate is 25% but is even greater in Botswana, the Republic of
Congo, Senegal, a l, and South Africa, among others. With 200 million people aged between 15 and
24, Africa has the largest population of young people in the world, they added. In most African
countries, youth unemployment is twice higher than that of adults, notes the African Development
5 Bank. Young women feel the effects of unemployment even more sharply than young men. The
African Development Bank found that in most countries in sub-Saharan Africa and all of those in
North Africa, it is easier for men to get jobs than it is for women, even if they have the same skills
and experiences.
Africa’s unemployment statistics exclude those in vulnerable employment and those who
are underemployed in informal sectors. Many young African university graduates are doing menial
jobs. “Young Africans find work, but not in places that pay good salaries, develop skills or provide
10
a measure of job security”, reports the Brookings Institution. This Institution considers
underemployment a problem serious enough to deserve greater attention, since it masks the

15

reality in countries that post low unemployment rates. “In some African countries, more than 70%
20 of the youth are either self-employed or contributing to family work”, adds the Brookings Institution
report.
Alexander Chikwanda, Zambia’s former finance minister, put it succinctly in an interview:
“Youth unemployment is a ticking time bomb”, that now appears to be perilously close to
exploding. The analogy draws attention to the consequences of high youth unemployment in a
25 continent where about 10-12 million young people join the labor market each year. “In North
Africa, the Arab Spring has s s shown that a lack of employment opportunities can undermine social
cohesion and political stability”.

Africa’s jobless youth cast a t a shadow over e r economic growth

10

5
African governments are confronting unemployment in many different ways. In Senegal,
with 200,000 Senegalese joining the labor market each year, a programme was launched in
February 2013 to create 30,000 jobs within a year. The African Development Bank is financing
15 some of Senegal’s se s self-employment programs for y r youth and women.
Bank.
Many young African university graduates are doing menial
jobs. “Young Africans find work, but not in places that pay good salaries, develop skills or provi
a measure of job security”, reports the Brookings Institution. This Institution considers
underemployment a problem serious enough to deserve greater attention, since it masks the
reality in countries that post low unemployment rates.

You must tell me how you failed your school leaving examination. '

Guinea Jo: Dada Awuru caused it.

Uncle Imam: Do you mean the traditional doctor near Ketu village on the way to my farm ?

Guinea Jo: Yes, uncle. His medicine let me down in the examination haIl.

Uncle Imam applied the cane once more and shouted, ‘You are a liar. You must tell me the whole truth’.

Guinea Jo : Uncle, I am telling the truth. Six months before our school leaving examination I heard about Dada
Awuru. He was reputed to be a powerful juju man and in a position to help ambitious students pass tbeir exarns
without reading their books at all. I went to consult Awuru, who boasted that I would easily pass my exam with a juju
handkerchief. He told me that if I used the hanky(1) to wipe my face, my eyes would be opened spiritually and I would
just copy out the answers to all questions. I saved my transport and pocket money for sorne months to buy a juju
hanky. I did not bother to read my books any more throughout the five months preceding the examination.

Uncle Imam: What happened at the examination hall ?

Guinca Jo: When I applied my hanky three times with incantations as directed by Dada Awuru, the questions
remained on the papers given to me by the examiner and I became very nervous sweating all over my body!

Uncle Imam: You are a foolish lazy boy. Juju cannot help you pass exam . You have to study hard day and night.
Dada Awuru duped ou for nothing. Anyway, you' ve learnt your lesson.
