SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

General Guidelines and Language

1. The language of the memorial must be English only.


2. Unless specified, the language and/or terms used must be in consonance with the
proposition
3. It is encouraged to provide enough citations/footnotes to enable the reviewer to
validate the veracity of the arguments presented.
4. Students are encouraged to use precedents to establish their arguments, but the
relevance of their case law may be questioned during oral presentation.
5. It is also requested to ensure that the draft is free from any grammatical or formatting
errors
6. It is urged to stick to the facts and not go beyond the scope of the proposition,
however should the student feel the need to travel outside the facts, they have to
explicitly justify the same during oral submissions.
7. Furthermore, the students are explicitly prohibited to contact any faculty members
with the proposition and upon discovery, they shall be not awarded any marks for the
memorial or oral rounds.
8. The faculty concerned retains the right to modify any or all part of these rules, after
intimating the class through whatsapp. If any candidate presents the memorial in
violation to the amended rules, his plea of non-awareness will not be entertained.
9. The last for submission will be conveyed later after consulting the respective Head of
the Department
10. The division of petitioner/appellant/respondents/defendant will be based on the
Students Roll No, where the Even Roll no shall be petitioner/appellant and Odd
Roll nos shall be respondent/defendant.
11. Students are to prepare accordingly for the oral and memorial submissions.
12. Any violation of the rules shall result in the deduction of marks on a pro rata basis.
13. Students are also supposed to identify the parties for the proposition and the Court for
the appropriate proceeding shall be the Supreme Court of India.
14. Students have the liberty to adopt either OSCOLA or Bluebook 20 th edition method of
citation.

15. Students are requested to mention their Roll No and Name in place of the Team Code,
on the Title page of the memorial.

Memorial Formatting

1. The formatting must be consistent and the draft should be appropriately ‘justified’ and
italicised/bolded, wherever necessary. In case of titles/headings, students may choose
to use Centered formatting. But the overall formatting used must be professional and
clean.
2. The Font used on the draft must be Times New Roman with letter size of not more
than 12 for the body of the text and size 10/11 for the footnotes. However, the
candidates may choose to provide the titles with the font size as 14 or 16.
3. The line spacing must not be more than 1.5, but with respect to paragraph spacing, the
spacing can be 2 or 2.5.
4. Any quotation from the case laws or statutes must be compulsory italicised and put
within inverted commas.
5. The colour of the Font used must be black all throughout the draft.
6. The memorial must contain all the necessary parts, including the following:
a. Title Page
b. Table of Contents
c. Index of Authorities
d. List of Abbreviations (if any)
e. Statement of Jurisdiction
f. Statement of Facts
g. Statement of Issues
h. Summary of Arguments
i. Arguments Advanced
j. Prayer for Relief

7. As already conveyed, the Title Page, Statement of Facts and Prayer for Relief must
have its own page, without any overlapping. However, the parts may have
overlapping.
8. The length of the memorial shall be not more than 16 pages and should the candidates
exceed the limit, the exceeding pages will be considered not a part of the memorial.
9. Every page of the problem must mention the corresponding the page number and the
same must be also be accurately represented in the Table of Contents.
10. The memorial must contain a uniform border of 1 inch all around the page.

Oral Rounds

1. Participants will be given a maximum of 10 mins to present their arguments.


However, the time may be extended depending upon the discretion of the faculty
conducting the rounds.
2. Students are to be present in full formal attire during the rounds and obey the court
decorum during the oral rounds.
3. The participants must address the bench appropriately, whenever required.
4. Presentation of case materials during argument, i.e. compendium, is optional and no
extra marks will be awarded for the same.
