Project Charter on Mobile Application Development.

‘Class Companion’
People around the world are taking initiatives to reduce paperwork likewise HEC recommends
teachers to adopt new teaching methods like conducting online quizzes and assignments. This
would not only save paper but also lessen the hardships of a teacher who is always busy in
checking the papers, looking for plagiarism in assignments, managing different classes and
keeping all records while providing resources of that course to each student. On the other hand,
students are always looking for where their next class will be, which assignments are due
submission and forgetting about the quizzes.
- Project Purpose
The main purpose of this app is that it will notify the students of their schedule, it will
remind them of their due assignments and quizzes. Students will have the access of
resources uploaded by the teachers to help them. On the other hand, teachers will be
receiving plagiarism-detected assignments in time. Class would be more productive than
before. Making the announcements would be a lot easier and teachers could respond to
student’s query even after the office hours. The app will also provide feature of creating a
timetable so our user will not have to suffer the congested corridors in order to see the
timetable on notice board.

- Measurable Project Objectives


To design an iOS app which will help teachers to manage classes, students to organize
themselves and better academic performance. HEC now recommends teachers to give
lectures through slides and take assignments online in order to save paper, better
productivity and easy record maintenance.

- High level Project Description, Boundaries and Key deliverables


Class Companion an iOS app that will not only benefit teachers and students but also
increase productivity, promote responsible writing in a cut-and-paste culture, reduce the
use of unoriginal content (plagiarism), punctuality and will ease the students from
maintaining lab journals too.
This app will be first one to cater all the problems on a single platform. Class Companion
will notify the student of his schedule, it will remind him of his due assignments and
quizzes. Student will have the access of resources uploaded by the teacher to help them.
On the other hand, teacher will be receiving plagiarism-detected assignments in time.
Making the announcements would be a lot easier and teacher could response to student’s
query even after the office hours. Our app will also have the feature of creating a
timetable so our user will not have to suffer the congested corridors in order to see the
timetable on notice board.
The key deliverables of this project would be an iOS app that would cater the above
points.

- Related Success Criteria


This project will be successful if the following conditions are met:
 Both teachers and students can sign up and login into their accounts.
 Both teachers and students can view timetable, resources and classes.
 Student can ask a question and upload assignments.
 Teachers can create a class, post a note and upload resources.
 Feedback from campus constituents on design and information architecture is
positive.

- High level risks


Our project may have following constraint.
Risks Involved:
 Forgetting login credentials, we will give the option of forgot password to recover
accounts.
 There would be compatibility issues with older versions of iOS we will resolve
them though updates.
 Risk of unsustainable user growth, we will design an easily upgradable database.
 Risk of server failure, we will keep the server maintained and in an appropriate
atmosphere.

- High level Constraints
Class Companion is an iOS application that will provide features for maintaining and
organizing educational issues of teachers and students. Educational industry is a large
market; “there are over 55 million students and more than 200k institutes”. We have
targeted the common issues of teachers and students and proposed a solution, which will
be beneficial for our domain. Our targeted platform for which we will have our
application is iOS.
Our app will notify the student of his schedule, it will remind him of his due assignments
and quizzes. Students will have the access of resources uploaded by the teachers to help
them. On the other hand, teacher will be receiving plagiarism-detected assignments in
time. Class would be more productive than before. Making the announcements would be
a lot easier and teacher could response to student’s query even after the office hours. Our
app will also have the feature of creating a timetable so our user will not have to suffer

This app provides security as the login prevents the app from being misused by
unauthorized users. Only an authorized user will be granted rights to modify as per
requirements. It is a reliable app since the design handles invalid inputs. Since reliability
is major area of concern the app has a backup to avoid data loss.

- High level Assumptions


The following are a list of assumptions:
 This project has the full support of the project sponsor and stakeholders.
 Funding for resources is available.
 Knowledge of existing app and content management models must be successfully
transferred to the developers prior to the implementation phase.

Authority: Training, support for Entrepreneurs.

- Project Approval Criteria


The project approval criteria would be met when the user’s input is validated, quality is
maintained, no app performance issues, should work on any iPhone, UI/UX should feel
good, behaves as needed and flows are correct. The success would be decided by the
project sponsor i.e. Bahria University Incubation Centre and they would sign off when
they are satisfied with the app.
