ABSTRACT:

The traditional methods of student attendance, such as roll calls and manual sign-ins, are often time-
consuming, error-prone, and susceptible to fraudulent practices. To address these challenges, this project
proposes a Face Recognition-Based Student Attendance System that automates the attendance process
using biometric authentication. The system employs computer vision and machine learning techniques to
detect, recognize, and verify students’ faces in real-time.
Using a camera interface, the system captures students' facial images, processes them through a deep
learning model, and matches them against a pre-registered database. Techniques such as OpenCV for face
detection, TensorFlow/Keras for deep learning models, and Haar Cascades or CNN-based models ensure
accurate and efficient recognition. The system integrates with a database to store attendance records and
provides an easy-to-use interface for instructors to monitor student participation.
This automated approach enhances security, eliminates proxy attendance, and reduces administrative
workload, making it a reliable and efficient alternative to traditional methods. Future improvements may
include cloud integration, multi-angle facial recognition, and AI-based anti-spoofing techniques to further
enhance accuracy and usability.
