OVERHEAD STACKING DOORS

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 SUMMARY

A. Work of this section includes furnish all labor, materials, tools and equipment
and perform all services and operations necessary for the complete supply and
installation of Overhead Stacking Doors
B. Related Sections
The Contractor shall be required to coordinate the work of other sections with
the work of this section. Related work to be coordinated and used in
conjunction with this specification includes but is not restricted to:

1. Metal fabrications
2. Door Hardware
3. Interior Painting
4. Electrical Safety & Security
1.02 REFERENCES
A. Comply with applicable requirements of the following standards. Where these
standards conflict with other specified requirements, the most restrictive
requirements shall govern.
1. EN-regulations for power – operated doors EN 13241 – 1
2. EN 12635 doors – installation and use
3. EN 12978 safety equipment for power – operated doors and gates -

1.03 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS


A. Structural Performance: Provide overhead stacking doors capable of
withstanding the effects of gravity loads and the following loads and stresses
without evidencing permanent deformation of door components:
1. Wind Load: Uniform pressure (velocity pressure) of 0,96 kN/m²/ class 4
as per EN 12424), acting inward and outward.
2. Impact Test: Comply with DIN EN 52290 / 13541,
Wind Load resistance: 90 mph (176 km/h), pressure test to 1/2 and 1-
1/2 x design pressure (positive and negative).
B. Operation-Cycle Requirements: Provide overhead stacking door components
and operators capable of operating for not less than 50,000 cycles [and for 50
cycles per day.

A. Product Data: For each type and size of overhead stacking door and
accessory. Include details of construction relative to materials, dimensions of
individual components, profiles, and finishes. Provide roughing-in diagrams,
operating instructions, and maintenance information. Include the following:

i. Setting drawings, templates, and installation instructions for built-in


or embedded safety devices.
ii. Summary of forces and loads on walls and jambs.

B. Shop Drawings: For special components and installations not dimensioned


or detailed in manufacturer's data sheets.
1.05 QUALITY ASSURANCE
Installer Qualifications:
A. Engage an experienced installer who is an authorized representative of the
overhead stacker door manufacturer for both installation and maintenance of
units required for this Project.
B. Source Limitations: Obtain overhead stacking doors through one source from
a single manufacturer. Obtain operators and controls from the overhead stacker
door manufacturer.
1.06 QUALIFICATIONS

A. Manufacturer’s Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing products


specified in this section with minimum ten (10) years documented experience.

B. Installer: Company specializing in performing work of this section with minimum


five (5) years documented experience approved by manufacturer.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 MANUFACTURERS
A. Available Manufacturers: The products and manufacturers specified hereinafter
are specified for the purpose of establishing minimum quality standards.
Products equal in quality to, or better than those specified, will be considered
acceptable. The decision of acceptability shall rest with the Engineer:
2.02 DOOR CURTAIN MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION
A. Door Curtain: Fabricate overhead stacking door curtain of interlocking
fiberglass twin-walled panels, thickness 40 mm, translucency up to 78%, non-
corrosive, 100%UV – absorbing, radar-reflection free, designed to withstand

wind loading indicated, in a continuous length for width of door without vertical
reinforcements, without hinges and free of protruding components. Aluminium
door frame, surface anodized in shade E6-C0 with 1 Nos Vision panels made of
real glass from 1000 – 2000 mm ( 1 panels each with 500 mm height)
B. Bottom Profile: made of extruded aluminium, anodized in shade E6C0
C. Vertical guide tracks: solid aluminium tracks, mill-finished, closed on three
sides for safety and functional reasons, with easily detachable track covers for
maintenance. Incorporated fall-arresting system, MOT – tested, and energy chain
for power supply of safety edge.
D. Door panels with aluminum frame, aluminum anodized finished, filling made of
fiberglass twin-walled sheets, panel thickness 40 mm, and natural light
translucency appr. 78%, Up = 2.5 W/m²K , Door panel height 500 mm, without
vertical reinforcement beams.
E. 1 Vision Panel with Real Glass Filling.
F. Massive vertical aluminum guide tracks, with detachable covers and incorporated
anti-drop-device, TÜV - tested
G. Self-holding operation
H. Microprocessor control Type BDC 800 housed in a control box made of plastic,
rating IP 65, with integrated push-buttons up-stop-down, fitted on the lateral guide
tracks
I. Emergency opening / operation via hoist chain
J. Drive unit 400V, rating IP 54, with integrated brake mechanism and thermal
overload protection
K. Thermal overload section incorporated in drive unit
L. Load-bearing medium: massive chains sheltered in lateral guide tracks, break load
per side appr. 3 tons (6-fold safety)
M. Door system free of torsion springs, protruding hinges, spiral cables, three-side
closed guide tracks provide optimal sealing against sand intrusion. Fixation to the
soffit only, no fixation/suspension to the ceiling necessary
N. Minimized mechanical strain by permanent vertical position of panels, even in
Parking position
O. Photo Cell for passage control.
P. Doors are operated without Spring, Cables and Ropes etc.,

2.03 COUNTERBALANCING MECHANISM / FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPLE


A. General: door operating without counterbalance mechanism, without torsion
springs, without mechanical hinge connections between panels and without
spiral cable.
2.04 ACCESSORIES
A. Weather seals: Provide replaceable, adjustable, continuous, compressible
weather- stripping gaskets fitted to bottom and top of each panel, unless
otherwise indicated.
1. Provide doors with combination bottom twin-lip weather seal and opto-
electronic sensor edge.

2. In addition, provide replaceable, adjustable, continuous, flexible, seals of
flexible EPDM, rubber, or neoprene at door jambs for a weathertight
installation.
B. Self-locking drive unit, no mechanical lock required.
2.05 ELECTRIC DOOR OPERATORS
A. General: Provide electric door operator assembly of size and capacity
recommended and provided by door manufacturer for door [ and operation-
cycle requirements] specified, with electric motor and factory-prewired motor
controls, starter, gear-reduction unit, up-stop-down push buttons and all-pole-
separating main switch in control box cover, solenoid-operated brake, 1 remote-
control receiver, 1 control transmitter/door.
B. Emergency operation: Provide hoist chain mechanism, operable from floor
level, in case of power failure while disconnecting motor without affecting timing
of limit switch. Include interlock device to automatically prevent motor from
operating when emergency operator is engaged.
C. Design operator so motor may be removed without disturbing limit-switch
adjustment and without affecting emergency auxiliary operator.
D. Provide control equipment complying with EN 60335-2-103 Safety of machinery,
requirements for door actuators
E. Door-Operator Type: Provide wall-, hood-, or bracket-mounted, door operator
unit consisting of electric motor, drive, and chain and sprocket secondary
drive.
F. Electric Motors: Provide high-starting torque, reversible, continuous-duty,
electric motors complying, rated IP 54; with electrical and mechanical overload
protection; sized to start, accelerate, and operate door in either direction from
any position, at not less than (0.2 m/s), without exceeding nameplate ratings or
service factor.
i. Type: electronic limit stops
ii. Power supply / fuse: 400V / 50 Hz, 10 A fuse
G. Remote-Control Sender: Provide momentary-contact, three-button control
station with push-button controls labeled "Open," "Close," and "Stop", suitable
to operate all doors from one device.
H. Obstruction Detection Device: Provide each motorized door with indicated
external photo cell capable of protecting full width of door opening. Activation
of photo cell immediately stops and reverses downward door travel.
1. Sensor Edge: Provide each motorized door with an automatic safety

sensor edge, opto-electronic with sender and receiver unit, located within
rubber sealing mounted to bottom bar. Contact with sensor immediately
stops and reverses downward door travel. Connect to control circuit using
energy chain located inside and protected by the vertical aluminum guide
tracks. No external cabling or spiral cables.
I. Pre-adjusted limit positions: no mechanical limit switches, limit positions to be
adjusted along with door installation
FINISHES, GENERAL
A. Appearance of Finished Work: Variations in appearance of abutting or
adjacent pieces are acceptable if they are within one-half of the range of approved
Samples. Noticeable variations in the same piece are not acceptable. Variations in
appearance of other components are acceptable if they are within the range of
approved Samples and are assembled or installed to minimize contrast.
2.06 STEEL FINISHES
A. All steel components (stacking cassettes, fixing brackets, chain sprockets) are
cold-galvanized
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION
A. General: Install door and equipment complete with necessary hardware, and
equipment supports according to Shop Drawings, manufacturer's written
instructions, and as specified.
3.02 ADJUSTING
A. Lubricate bearings and sliding parts; adjust doors to operate easily, free from
warp, twist, or distortion and fitting weathertight for entire perimeter.
3.03 DEMONSTRATION
A. Startup Services: Engage a factory-authorized service representative to
perform startup services and to train Owner's maintenance personnel as
specified below:
1. Test door closing when activated by detector or alarm connected fire-
release system. Reset door-closing mechanism after successful test.
2. Train Owner's maintenance personnel on procedures and schedules
related to troubleshooting, servicing, preventive maintenance, and
procedures for testing and resetting release devices.
3. Schedule training with Owner with at least 7 days' advance notice.
