Urbanization
 The process when large numbers of people became
permanently concrentrated in a relatively small area.
 When people moves from rural to urban areas
 Involves:
 Population growth;
 Population density increase;
 Migration;
 Emigration and Immigration; and
 Natural increase due to a higher birth rates.
How urbanization leads to city formation?
 Small groups inro settlements and towns.
 Smaller towns into larger towns; larger towns into
cities
 Growth of cities when more people live to work here
 Cities expand, swallowing up neighboring areas to
become mega-cities
