CHAPTER 4: PRESENTATION OF FINDINGS

Juliana:

This chapter presents the findings on academic challenges affecting senior high school students at San
Luis Senior High School. Data from interviews with Grade 11 and 12 students are grouped into key
themes, with direct quotes included for support.

Juliana:

1.The academic performance of students at SLSHS is influenced by socioeconomic barriers, home

environment struggles, institutional factors, and psychological challenges. Understanding these
obstacles helps in developing strategies to support students and improve their educational outcomes.

1.1 The biggest factor affecting students' school performance at SLSHS is 'difficulty understanding
lessons.' This highlights the need for improved teaching methods, better student support, and enhanced
learning strategies. Providing high-quality teachers can help address these comprehension challenges
and improve student outcomes.

1.2 The most common response from students was, 'It makes studying hard because of responsibilities
such as household chores, taking care of siblings, and working part-time.' This shows how household
duties can limit study time and negatively affect academic performance.

1.3 The most common school-related factors affecting students' learning are class schedules and
workload. A heavy academic load can cause stress and fatigue, making it harder for students to stay
motivated. Proper scheduling and balanced workloads are essential for better academic performance.

Shmily:

2. Financial struggles, unsupportive parents, and bullying are major reasons why students consider
dropping out of school. These challenges affect their motivation and confidence, often forcing them to
choose between education and personal well-being.

2.1 Many students feel like quitting school because money is a big problem. Financial difficulties cause
stress and uncertainty, making it hard for them to focus on their studies or continue their education.

2.2 Parents strongly encourage their children to finish their studies. When parents provide strong
support and encouragement, students are more motivated to stay in school despite challenges.

2.3 Bullying makes students feel unsafe and want to leave. A hostile school environment lowers
motivation, making some students choose to leave rather than endure fear and stress.

Kailyn:

3. Students at SLSHS face various challenges that affect their academic performance, with bullying being
a major concern. Bullying creates stress and fear, making it difficult for students to focus on their
studies. This can lower their academic performance and even lead them to consider leaving school.

3.1 Personal problems like stress and anxiety are the biggest challenges students face in school. These
issues affect their ability to concentrate, complete assignments, and perform well in exams. Managing
stress and building emotional resilience are essential for academic success.

3.2 Many students handle academic difficulties by asking teachers or classmates for help. This shows
that peer and teacher support play a crucial role in their learning. A supportive school environment with
open communication helps students overcome challenges and improve their performance.

3.3 Students believe lessons should be easier to understand to help struggling learners. Many find the
curriculum too complex and need clearer explanations to improve comprehension. By simplifying
lessons, teachers can enhance student engagement, academic performance, and overall learning
success.

Angel Lee:
4. Academic challenges significantly affect students' motivation and future aspirations. Factors like
financial struggles, home environment, school-related issues, and mental health challenges can lower
their drive to study and impact their goals. Understanding these challenges is essential to supporting
students in achieving their educational and career dreams.

4.1 Many students use their struggles as motivation to work harder for a better future. Developing a
growth mindset helps them stay resilient and work towards their goals despite challenges.

4.2 Less academic pressure and stress help students stay motivated in school. When students face
excessive workloads and high expectations, they experience burnout and disengagement. Reducing
stress and creating a balanced learning environment can help students stay focused and motivated.

4.3 Academic struggles push students to succeed and help their families. These challenges fuel their
determination to achieve career success and provide support to their loved ones.

CHAPTER 5

Shmily: Lastly, Chapter 5. In this chapter we will present the key findings of our research, the conclusions
we have drawn, and the recommendations we propose based on the results.

Mariah:

1. Students at San Luis Senior High School face challenges in their studies, such as difficulty
understanding lessons due to complex topics or limited resources. Their home environment also plays a
role, with distractions and financial struggles affecting their ability to focus. Additionally, heavy class
schedules and excessive schoolwork make academic success even more difficult.

2. Financial struggles, parental influence, and bullying significantly impact students' decisions to stay in
school or drop out. Many students consider leaving due to financial difficulties, but strong parental
support helps them persevere. Meanwhile, bullying creates a negative school environment, making it
harder for some students to continue their education.

Juliana:

3. Stress and anxiety make it challenging for students to concentrate, complete assignments, and
perform well academically. Despite these obstacles, they turn to teachers and classmates for support.
This emphasizes the need for a strong support system to help students manage their academic
challenges

4. Academic struggles influence students' motivation and future aspirations. While some may feel
discouraged, many use these difficulties as motivation to improve and reach their goals. Their
determination to overcome obstacles drives them to work toward a better future

5. Several recommendations were made to support students in overcoming their academic struggles.
These include strengthening support systems, increasing awareness of mental health, adjusting
workloads, and reinforcing anti-bullying initiatives. Implementing these measures can create a more
positive and supportive learning environment.

Shmily:

1. Students can enhance their learning by managing their time effectively and developing strong study
habits. Creating a study schedule, setting goals, and using active learning techniques can help them
grasp lessons more efficiently.

2. Teachers should adopt interactive teaching methods to keep students engaged and improve
comprehension. Incorporating real-life examples, technology, and remedial support can make learning
more effective and accessible.

Kailyn:

3. Schools should ensure that academic workloads are balanced to prevent students from feeling
overwhelmed. Adjusting class schedules and setting realistic deadlines can help students manage their
responsibilities more efficiently.

4. Families play a crucial role in a student’s success by minimizing household distractions and supporting
their education. Providing a quiet study space and maintaining open communication can improve
students’ focus and learning outcomes.

Angel Lee:

5. Schools must enforce strict anti-bullying policies to create a safe and supportive learning
environment. Establishing clear reporting systems and preventive measures will help students feel more
secure and focused on their studies.

6. Further research is necessary to understand how academic challenges impact students’ future career
paths. Identifying effective support strategies can improve student retention rates and long-term
academic success.

Angel: Supporting students' success requires efforts from students, teachers, parents, and schools. By
promoting good study habits, engaging teaching methods, a safe school environment, and future
research on academic challenges, students can have a better learning experience.

Juliana: In conclusion, Chapters 1-3 of our research highlight the key factors influencing student success
in education.

Mariah: We explored various academic challenges, including personal, social, and environmental aspects
that shape how students perform.

Shmily: Understanding these factors is crucial for improving educational experiences and supporting
students in overcoming obstacles.
Kailyn: As we move forward, the goal is to find effective ways to address these challenges and help
students thrive in their academic journey.
