The Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 was a nine-month conflict between West
Pakistan and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). The war began on March 25, 1971,
when the Pakistani military launched Operation Searchlight, a crackdown on Bengali
nationalists in East Pakistan. The operation resulted in the deaths of hundreds of

India intervened in the war on the side of East Pakistan in December 1971. The Indian
