REASON: For the LEAP-1A Engine, some Left Hand Side (LHS) and Right Hand Side (RHS)
Flex Shafts of the Hydraulic Thrust Reverser Actuation System (HTRAS), were
found manufactured in non-conforming conditions - the Flex Shaft end fitting
concentricity with the shaft was not controlled, which leads to excessive shaft
cable wear. The Flex Shafts have been found with abnormal wear or with wire
strands broken.
COMPLIANCE:
Mandatory - Service Bulletin must be accomplished
DESCRIPTION: This Service Bulletin provides instructions for inspection and replacement of the
LHS and RHS Flex Shafts and cleaning the LHS and RHS Synchronization
Tubes. In case a finding is identified, the upper and lower actuator adjacent to the
Flex Shaft will need to be replaced. Both on-wing and workshop instructions are
provided.
PARTS REQUIRED: 612C3201-001* - Flex Shaft-Side (in all cases, regardless of finding)
and
612C3001-017 - Actuator, SFLA (in case of finding)
612C3002-501 - Actuator, SNLA (in case of finding)
612C3007-501 - Actuator, SMLA (in case of finding)
NOTE: * Alternate part number for P/N 612C3201-001 can be found through
SPOL BD-TR-22004.
LABOR HOURS: On-Wing: Elapsed time 2.25 hours with one person per nacelle half (5.65 hours in
case of findings).
In Workshop: Elapsed time 0.45 hours with one person per nacelle half (3.85
hours in case of findings).

1. B. Concurrent Requirements:
None.
C. Reason:
(1) Objective:
The accomplishment of this Service Bulletin is intended to identify and replace the non
compliant units of the Left Hand Side (LHS) and Right Hand side (RHS) Flex Shafts,
clean the LHS and RHS Synchronization Tubes and if necessary, replace the adjacent
actuators.
(2) Problem:
For the LEAP-1A Engine, some Left Hand Side (LHS) and Right Hand Side (RHS) Flex
Shafts of the Hydraulic Thrust Reverser Actuation System (HTRAS) were found
manufactured in non-conforming conditions - the Flex Shaft end fitting concentricity with
the shaft was not controlled, which leads to excessive shaft cable wear. The Flex Shafts
have been found with abnormal wear or with wire strands broken.
(3) Cause:
The non-conforming Flex Shafts contact the inner diameter of the synchronization tube
during operation, leading to wear and possible broken wires.
Failure to replace the Flex Shafts (if finding identified) will cause the Actuators to
desynchronize, causing a Thrust Reverser fault in use.
1. (Continued)
D. Description:
This Service Bulletin provides instructions for inspection and replacement of the LHS and RHS
Flex Shafts and cleaning the LHS and RHS Synchronization Tubes. In case the finding is
identified, actuators adjacent to the Flex Shafts will need to be replaced. Both on-wing and
workshop instructions are provided.
E. Compliance:
F. Approval:
The inspection procedures described in this SB are reviewed and technically accepted by
Airbus to apply to the Airbus fleet affected.
This SB does not contain any change information that revises the equipment definition covered
by Airbus approved modifications.
1. G. Manpower:
The approximate labor hours necessary to apply this Service Bulletin with one person per
nacelle half is as follows:
(a) On-Wing
4 In case of finding:
(b) In Workshop
3 In case of finding:
None.
Not changed.

2. MATERIAL INFORMATION
NOTE: * The components listed in the chapter 2.A. are necessary in case of findings
during the inspection.
NOTE: The unit price is defined under 2023 economical conditions. After the Unit Price
date, new price and SAFRAN Nacelles data is applicable. Prices are in United
States Dollars.
NOTE: ** Alternate part number for P/N 612C3201-001 can be found through SPOL

2. A. (Continued)
(1) Labor:
Operators will have 30 months from the initial issue date of this Service Bulletin to
implement the inspection and replacement of the affected Flex Shafts.
A Warranty Claim for labor per the stated labor hours listed in paragraph 1.G.(2) will be
accepted upon receipt of the implementation report of this Service Bulletin, for a duration
of 30 months from the initial issue date of this Service Bulletin or within the aircraft and/or
spare part warranty period, whichever is greater, and within 90 days after replacement of
the Flex Shaft.
(2) Parts:
The parts to execute this service bulletin are available from SAFRAN Nacelles. Purchase
orders are subject to the delivery plan.
NOTE: Safran Nacelles recommends that all Flex Shafts within the affected population
per Section 1.a be replaced.
(a) For a period of 24 months from the initial issue date of this Service Bulletin, the Flex
Shaft (612C3201-001) is available from SAFRAN Nacelles Free of Charge (FOC). A
no cost purchase order will be accepted according to the Flex Shaft effectivity listed
in Section 1.A. Safran Nacelles will work with each operator to develop a delivery
plan to support their operations over the 30 months implementation period.
The purchase order(s) must reference this Service Bulletin No. BD70CR78-055 in
addition to the number of Flex Shafts requested for the operator's affected fleet.
The removed Flex Shaft must be scrapped locally. IF there are actuator findings,
the Flex Shaft MUST be returned with the actuators. They can only be discarded if
there was no Foreign Object Damage (FOD).
After the 24 months period (excluding any revisions), the Flex Shafts will be
available at catalog price (see section 2.A).
(b) If the Flex Shaft is found damaged (designation D, E, F per the service bulletin),
operators are recommended to replace the adjoining upper and lower actuators
(PN: 612C3001-017 and 612C3002-501 or 612C3007-501) and send to SAFRAN
Nacelles for evaluation and repair if necessary. In this case, operators must
complete an implementation report of SB BD70CR78-055 with three (3) photos: one
of the entire Flex Shaft, a close up of the damage area, and a photo of the Flex
Shaft serial number.
Operators should send both removed actuators to a SAFRAN Nacelles MRO Shop
with a repair order that mentions the implementation of this service Bulletin No.
BD70CR78-055. Refurbishment and return to service of the actuators will be done
at no cost to the operator, except for cases of Customer Induced Damage (CID).
At the reception of the actuators AND the damaged Flex Shaft, the SAFRAN
Nacelles MRO will provide a standard exchange to the operator. MRO shop will
provide an exchange standard form to the operator. This document will be returned
signed by operator to MRO and MRO will organize the delivery of a serviceable
actuator.
In case of warranty claim, the operator must send an MRO warranty claim by E-
services with a completed implementation report and the three photos noted above.
Include reference to service bulletin No. BD70CR78-055.
