A Detailed Lesson Plan

inMathematics IV
I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to:
 apply the formula in finding the volume of rectangular prism with
standard units;
 write solution in fnding volumes of rectangular prisms correctly and;
 show cooperation and unity in the group activity

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Finding the Volume of Rectangular pism
References:M6ME-IVba-95 page , 288-289
Materials: different sizes of rectangular
prism ,flashcards,pingpongballs and ruler
ValuesIntegration: Cooperation and unity

III. Procedure:

Teacher’sActivity Pupil’Activity
A.PreliminaryActivities

1. Prayer
(Theteacher will call a pupil to lead
the prayer). (Pupils pray for the opening prayer.)

2. Greetings
Goodmorningclass!
How are you today? Goodmorning!
We’re fine!
3. Checking of attendance

. The teacher will ask the student

B.PreparatoryActivities

1. OpeningSong
Learning Math is really fun….
Let’s sing our class themesong.

2. Drill
Let’s exercise our MIND,so be
attentive.
Mental computation using flashcards
5x3x2 6x2x3
2x6x2
8x5x1 4x7x1
3. Review

So children what have we discussed Teacher, yesterday our topic was

yesterday? the Volume of a solid figure using
Non- Standard Units.

That’sright.

I have here 2 examples of solid Teacher cylinder and prism.

figures,what do you call these (Pupils may vary answers)
figures?

Very good. Which do you think

between these solid figures will Teacher, it's called volume.
contain more marbles?

Good. What do you call now

the amount of space a solid figure
occupies?

4. Motivation
Class,What do you think is this?
A piece of jigsaw puzzle.
(The teacher will show pieces of
puzzles)
That’sright!Have you ever
Yes Teacher.
played a Jigsaw puzzle?

In order to form the puzzle.You are

going to answer my questions and if
(The pupils answer the question
you answer it correctly,you are going
until the puzzle is formed.)
to paste a piece of jigsaw puzzle on
the board.

(Call one by one until the puzzle is

formed.)
Okay,What is formed now In our
puzzle?

A RectangularPrism.

B.DevelopmentalActivities

1. Presentation
Rhea has an empty cereal box. It
has a length of 15 cm, a width of 4
cm, and a height of 10 cm. If she will
store rice in it, how many cubic
centimeters of rice will it contain?

What does Rhea An empty cereal

have? What is its box. Its length is 15

length? cm.

How about its Its width is 4cm.

width? What about 10 cm.

its height?

What is asked in the problem?

The problem is how many cubic

centimeters of rice will an empty
Do you know how to solve the cereal box contain.
problem?
No teacher.
And that is our topic for today. It is all
about finding the Volume of a
Rectangular Prism.

Show a short clip determining the

volume of the prism.

2. Discussion
After viewing,ask the following
questions to the pupils.

1. What is the video

presentation all about?
4.Why it is c𝑚3? Teacher because we are
multiplying three dimensions.
That’s right.We have 1unit for
Length,1 unit for width and 1 unit for
height.

Going back to the first problem,how

many cubic centimeters of rice will
an empty box of cereal contain? (One pupil will solve the problem).
Whowould like to solve in the board?

Before proceeding to our activity, let Yes teacher.

us answer another problem.

Berto found a rectangular box, its

length is 8 cm, its width is 5 cm, and
its height is 4 cm. What is the
volume of the rectangular box?

Who would like to answer this (One pupil will solve the problem.)
problem?

3. PerformingtheActivities
GroupActivity
Divide the class into three
groups. Distribute different sizes of
rectangular prism objects and ruler.

So class, I will be grouping you

into 3 groups. So what you will do is
that you’re going to measure the
length, width and height of the box
that I willbe giving to you later and of
course you need to find its volume.
Yes teacher!
Remember that this is a group
activity,and all of you should
cooperate. Is that clear?
NoneTeacher.
Do you have any questions?

4. Processing the Activities

Let the pupils discuss how they
foundthe volume.
It’s veryfun!
How did you find the activity?

How does cooperation and unity Teacher because of cooperation

take place in your group activity? and unity,we made the task a lot
easier.
(Instill the value of Cooperation and
Unity)

Teacher’sActivity Pupil’Activity
5. FixingSkills

Find the volum of rectangular prism.

1.

2. (Pupil solve the volume of

rectangular prism on the board)

3.

6. Generalization

What are the three dimensions of

rectangular prism?

What is the formula in finding the

Volume of rectangular prism?
The length, width and height.

The formula in finding the volume of

rectangular prism is V = l x w x h
IV. Evaluation

Find themissing dimension.

1.V=943m3 2.L=20cm 3.V=192 m3

W=9m W=5cm W=4m
L=7m H=10cm H=6m
H=? V=? L=?

4. V=14,400cm3 5.L=9ft.
L=40cm W=3ft.
H=24cm H=5ft.
W=? V=?

V. Assignment

Findthevolumeofthefollowing.

Lengt Width Heigh Volume

1.9 in. 7 in 5 in.
2.40cm 15cm 20cm
3.5m 4m 7m
