Have you ever became an “unwilling” babysister? For ex when your sister or brother asked you
to watch their kids for a few hours. (yes/no)
If yes, what will you do while watching them? Hanging out with them, or What would you do if
you become an unwilling babysitter? Do you have any outdoor activities together? Or just sitting
next to your kids and let them watch tv or youtube kids?
In my opinion, they like both, but we can’t always have outdoor activities if the weather isn’t
nice and the kid’s toys are too boring with you. Then, you turn on television, play your kid’s
favorite’s videos and you do your work.
That is my situation at my cousin’ home. My cousin usually let her children – (nói tên của bé đó
luôn cho nta ấn tượng) a six-year-old girl - and a watches Youtube kids whenever she is busy
with her jobs. At first, she plays Vietnamese famous songs for kids like: Me co yeu khong nao?
Chau len ba… until 2018, this song was released and became viral, can you guess what it is? the
Baby shark songs was released and became viral. (Chỗ này m có thể chiếu hình ảnh hoặc là 1
đoạn âm thanh của bài baby shark lên cho nta đoán, tạo hứng thú) It’s Baby shark! Then there
are opened new chapter for educational video songs: Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed,
Bath Song from the Cocomelon channel, Johnny Johnny Yes Papa from Looloo Kids. Her
children watched all the time, replay many times and until one day, they can remember and sing
in the correct rhythm and pronunciation. So, I spend a day, watch together and I realize several
important things. With bright colors, simple content, and catchy music, these videos are easy for
children to understand and remember. Parents can choose videos that are appropriate for their
child's age.
Chưa hiểu chỗ này lắm, rốt cuộc là m muốn nói về cái gì? Muốn nói về cách học tiếng Anh
của m thông qua việc coi video vs tụi nhỏ, hay muốn nói về cách học tiếng Anh cho con nít thông
qua youtube?
Language Development:
Watching English videos helps kids improve their vocabulary, pronunciation, and sentence
structure. It exposes them to new words, phrases, and expressions that they might not encounter
in their everyday environment.
Educational videos stimulate children's thinking and problem-solving abilities. They often
include puzzles, counting, or identification exercises that can strengthen a child’s cognitive
development. Many English videos for kids, such as those from channels like Cocomelon, Baby
Shark, or PBS Kids, are specifically designed to be educational. They teach concepts such as
numbers, colors, shapes, animals, basic math, and ways to express emotions. Kids can learn how
to handle different situations, such as making friends, dealing with feelings, or cooperating with
others.
Many English videos, especially those with stories or imaginative themes, can spark creativity in
children. Kids might become inspired to create their own stories, drawings, or pretend games
based on what they’ve watched.
As kids learn and understand more English through videos, they gain confidence in their
language skills. This confidence can extend beyond watching videos to engaging in
conversations and using English in real-life situations.
While watching English videos can have many benefits for kids, there are some potential
drawbacks if they watch too much. Here are a few possible negative effects:
1. Reduced Physical Activity: Spending too much time watching videos, Kids may miss
out on outdoor play, exercise, and other physical activities that are important for their
overall health and development.
2. Limited Social Interaction: Excessive screen time can limit opportunities for children to
interact with family members, peers, and others. Social interaction is important for
developing communication skills and emotional intelligence.
3. Difficulty in Focusing & Negative Impact on Attention Span: Watching too many
fast-paced videos with bright colors and quick transitions can make it harder for children
to focus on other activities, constantly switching between different videos and quick
scenes may make it difficult for children to stay focused on tasks that require more
sustained attention, like reading a book or doing homework.
4. Overdependence on Technology: If children rely too much on-screen time for
entertainment and learning, they may not develop important skills such as creative
thinking, problem-solving, or using their imagination. They could also become dependent
on devices for comfort or distraction.
5. Inappropriate Content: Even on platforms like YouTube Kids, there is a risk that
children might be exposed to inappropriate content or ads that aren't suitable for their age.
It’s important for parents to monitor and filter the content they’re watching.
6. Delay in Language Development: While watching educational videos can help with
language skills, excessive screen time can sometimes delay speech development. It's
important for children to have conversations with adults and peers, not just listen to
videos.
To control the negative effects of screen time and ensure that kids benefit from watching English
videos or other content, parents can take several proactive steps. Here are some strategies:
6. Watch Together:
By setting clear boundaries, choosing the right content, and being actively involved, parents can
ensure that their children benefit from watching English videos while minimizing the negative
effects.
CONCLUSION:
Watching kids' videos can teach you a lot of things, even as an adult. Here are some simple
lessons you can learn:
1. Simple Language & Using Music for Learning: The language in kids’ videos is easy to
understand. This shows you how to explain things in a simple way when talking to
others. Music can make learning fun and easier if you have trouble in learning by heart
Vocabulary and Grammar.
2. Learning by Repetition with Lifestyle Topics videos: Kids' videos often repeat things
like songs or words many times. This helps kids remember them better. You can learn
that repeating something helps people learn faster. Example: Learning E with Anna
channel, …
3. Short and Fun Content: Kids' videos are usually short and fun. You can learn that
keeping things simple and short can help people focus better.
