2.2. Configuring the WiFi Network

Note: The following section describes preliminary steps required for DPL WiFi units only.
For all other configurations continue to the following section.

DPL-WiFi is an offline / passive vehicle device. Unlike the cellular versions of the DPL, which upload data
in real time over the cellular network, the DPL-WiFi continuously collects data offline in its internal storage
and automatically uploads it to Orpak’s ForeFleet server when in a coverage area of a WiFi network.
The DPL keeps a list of WiFi networks through which it can connect for uploading data. These networks
are defined by their SSID (Service Set Identifier - the network name) and Security Key (password) and can
be implemented at the fleet premises, parking or fuel station by a fixed WiFi hotspot / router / access
point with Internet connectivity, or anywhere using a mobile phone with cellular internet connectivity and
an activated WiFi Tethering / Personal Hotspot on the device.

2.3. DPL SSID Configuration Options

In order for the DPL-WiFi to establish initial connection to the network, some simple options are available.
Using any of these options will make the initial connection quick and simple right after the DPL is taken

18 DPL Installation and Setup Manual

out of the box and connected to a power source.
The options are:
Default SSID: The DPL comes with preconfigured default SSID and security key (servicedpl /
servicedpl), which allow an automatic connection to a WiFi access point configured with these
network properties
Open Network Auto-connect: DPL will connect to any open WiFi network available (a network
without a security key), regardless of its SSID, to establish its initial connection (default)
Preconfigured DPL Units: DPL units can be preconfigured in the production process with
customer specific SSIDs and security keys, if provided in advance (please contact Orpak's
Customer Support for more details)
PC Configuration Tool: In cases where none of the above is applicable, you may configure the
unit's SSID by connecting the unit to a PC with USB or RS232 and running the DPL Configuration
tool. Please refer to Setting Up DPL WiFi Networks using DPL Configuration Tool
Using any of the options above, the DPL will establish connection with the ForeFleet cloud server, after
which it can be set up online using the DPL Setup Wizard.

2.4. Configuring WiFi Networks

Follow the guidelines below to configure your WiFi networks.

Note: Please read these guidelines thoroughly before installing the DPL WiFi units.

2.4.1. Setting Up DPL WiFi Networks using DPL Configuration Tool
