Warning notes contain information that, unless strictly observed, could result in injury or
loss of life.
Caution notes contain information that, unless strictly observed, could result in damage or
destruction of the equipment or long-term health hazards to personnel.
Notes contain helpful comments or references to material not covered in the manual.
Note: The following section describes preliminary steps required for DPL WiFi units only.
For all other configurations continue to the following section.
DPL-WiFi is an offline / passive vehicle device. Unlike the cellular versions of the DPL, which upload data
in real time over the cellular network, the DPL-WiFi continuously collects data offline in its internal storage
and automatically uploads it to Orpak’s ForeFleet server when in a coverage area of a WiFi network.
The DPL keeps a list of WiFi networks through which it can connect for uploading data. These networks
are defined by their SSID (Service Set Identifier - the network name) and Security Key (password) and can
be implemented at the fleet premises, parking or fuel station by a fixed WiFi hotspot / router / access
point with Internet connectivity, or anywhere using a mobile phone with cellular internet connectivity and
an activated WiFi Tethering / Personal Hotspot on the device.
Note: Please read these guidelines thoroughly before installing the DPL WiFi units.
Note: You may set up to 16 WiFi networks / hotspots. It is important to define WiFi
networks prior to installation in order to have solid connectivity during normal
operation. Adding / editing the list of WiFi networks after installation can be done
remotely via ForeFleet Administration Portal.
Note: For field installations / service calls – a default SSID and security key are set up in
slot # 15:
WiFi Network 15: servicedpl
WiFi Key 15: servicedpl
Tx Power at Antenna (assuming 0dBi antenna gain & Internal PA) dBm 18
Note: If your android is set as a non-secured hotspot, you may use any SSID name.
Note: If there is no connection to Hotspot for a few minutes, Mobile Hotspot might
automatically be disabled. In that case, you might need to repeat the above procedure to
enable your Mobile Hotspot again.
Note: If there is no connection to Hotspot for a few minutes, Mobile Hotspot might
automatically be disabled. In that case, you might need to repeat the above procedure to
enable your Mobile Hotspot again.
Notes:
The cellular network should provide GPRS coverage and support SMS.
Before placing the SIM card, write down APN (Access Point Name) and
phone number.
If changing cellular network provider, please verify that DPL is configured
with SIM card APN.
Pull out the SIM card tray and place the card in the tray (see Figure 3-1)
Best Practice: It is highly recommended to install the DPL behind the dashboard.
Note: DPL supports OBD-II CAN protocol (ISO 15765-4). Verify the manufacturer
specifications prior to connecting the device.
2. Locate the diagnostics connector. This connector is normally located under the dash on the left
side of the steering column
3. Connect the harness OBD-II connector to the vehicle diagnostics connector
4. Connect the harness 8-pin connector to the DPL power & data connector (labeled: POWER)
5. Route and fasten the harness with tie-wraps
Note: DPL supports both J1939 and J1708 communication link. Verify the
manufacturer specifications prior to connecting the device.
2. Locate the diagnostics Deutsch 9/6-pin connector. This connector is normally located under the
dash on the left side of the steering column and may be covered by a protective cap
Note: Verify that you are in an open area where the unit will have a clear GPS and
Data signal for the remainder of the installation.
COM (Red LED): This light will flash rapidly after the device is plugged in, and will slow down until
it becomes a solid red
Note: The DPL Setup Wizard can be accessed from smartphones, tablets, and PCs.
4.2. Logging In

2. In the Model drop-down menu, select the vehicle's model
3. In the Year drop-down menu, select the vehicle's year
4. In the Template drop-down menu, select the vehicle's bus protocol
Note: In order to detect switch status by voltage, the unit has to be successfully
connected to the CAN bus (i.e. step 2 was completed successfully).
Note: If no inputs are used, click the Skip button to proceed to the next step.
3 Thermistor Blue
Note: The device must be positioned with the label facing the front of the vehicle with the
LEDs facing upwards.
