TRANSCRIPT - COURSE DEMONSTRATION

Hello!

Welcome to the Research Data Management Librarian Academy.

Before you begin, this video will highlight features and offer tips that you might
find useful as you make your way through the course.

First, you’ll need an updated web browser and reliable internet access. We
highly recommend using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

If you are using a mobile or tablet device, we highly recommend downloading

the “Canvas by Instructure” app.

We’ll start at canvas.net and login at the top-right.

After signing-in, we are taken to our student dashboard. You should find the
RDMLA course and click “go to course.” This will take us to the course
homepage, and from here we can start with the course orientation or navigate
to individual units.

Let’s briefly look at the left navigation menu.

You can earn badges as you complete each unit. You can store and keep track
of your badges with Badger, an open badges provider.

Under the modules tab, you can navigate to different course units and sections
within those units.

You can collapse or expand sections for easy viewing.

The first section you need to complete is the Course Orientation. Once you
have completed a component, green check marks will display indicating that
you have successfully finished the requirements.

Also, from this selection, you can start any unit. But the unit components need
to be completed fully and sequentially in order to earn the completion badge.

Now, let’s walk through a unit so you can become familiar with the navigation
and components you can expect to experience. At the beginning of each unit,
you will begin at a unit homepage. Here, you will find an estimated completion
time, a reminder to complete all sections to earn the unit badge, as well as
some navigation tips.

To navigate through the units, and the course in general, use the next and
previous buttons located at the bottom of the page.

To see a high-level overview of a unit, click on the unit title banner at the top of
every page. From there, you will be able to navigate to different sections or
units.

Instructor lectures, live demonstrations, and interview videos are embedded

from YouTube. You have access to additional setting, for example you can
increase the size of the video, the quality of the HD, and change the speed of
the speaker.

Under each video you can find presentation slides and the speaker’s transcript.
And all videos include closed captioning.

The units will include a variety of video lectures, research teaching cases, and
interactive activities. The final assessment at the end of each unit will include
concepts that have been introduced throughout the unit.

If you have any questions as you progress through the course, visit the Help
Forum located in the Course Orientation.

Thank you for watching and we appreciate you enrolling in the RDMLA.
