INTRODUCTION
Implementing strategies and understanding the challenges they face, street vendors can
navigate difficulties in their businesses and work towards sustainable growth and success.In this
study the researchers will provide comprehensive understanding by street vendors strategies for
operating their business and what strategies will apply if conflicts or challenges might appear.
Street food vendors were observed in most public and private places including industrial
and construction sites, hospitals, schools, sporting stadia, bus termini, church buildings,
shopping and commercial centres, pavements, open spaces and along streets in the High
Density Suburbs. Street food vending survived not merely because it was an important source
of employment but because it provided urban dwellers with inexpensive and varied indigenous
meals.
Street food vending is a prevalent and important aspect of the informal economy in many
urban areas. It provides a source of livelihood for individuals and contributes to the foreign and
local food culture.The International Labour Organization (ILO) (2023), stated that street vending
provides employment for around 100 million people globally. This sector contributes to the
growth of the informal economy, which is estimated to account for between 25% and 40% of the
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in developing countries. They also provide a space for social
interactions, allowing people from different social classes and backgrounds to come together.
Street vendors often develop close relationships with their customers, and their businesses
become community landmarks. Street vending creates a sense of community, providing a space
for people to gather and share experiences. In addition to its economic and social contributions,
street vending also presents environmental considerations.

These vendors play a significant role in providing affordable and convenient food options
to students, residents, and passersby. Street food vending is a common part of city life,
providing easy and cheap choices for fast meals and snacks. Street food vendors are important
for feeding locals, students, and people passing by. But running a street food stall isn't just
about cooking and selling; it involves many strategies to get customers, keep food safe, and
make money.Despite its commonness, street food vending faces numerous challenges,
including government obstacles, competition, and concerns about food safety and hygiene..
In addition to safety concerns of the Food and Drug Authority (FDA), street food vendors
face other difficulties related to the informal nature of their business. Street vending often occurs
in an unregulated and competitive market setting, disregarding government rules and
regulations.Vendors operate without adhering to set vending hours and do not rely on formal
financial institutions for credit needs. This informal economy presents challenges related to
licensing, taxes, operating locations, and interactions with the local government (Menes et al.,
2019).

research and policy development aimed at improving the livelihoods and sustainability of street
food vendors in the area.
Moreover, the significance of this study extends beyond academia. It has practical
implications for various stakeholders involved in the street food ecosystem. Buyers, for instance,
will benefit from gaining awareness and understanding of the strategies employed by street
vendors to overcome their challenges. This knowledge will enable buyers to make informed
decisions when engaging with vendors, fostering a mutually beneficial relationship. Additionally,
the government can utilize the findings of this study to take action and support vendors in
addressing their challenges. By understanding the strategies employed by street vendors,
policymakers can develop effective interventions and policies that improve the livelihoods of
vendors and promote the overall development of the street vending sector.
Furthermore, the study holds educational value for students. It provides them with new
knowledge about the challenges faced by street vendors and the strategies they employ to
overcome them. This knowledge contributes to their academic growth and broadens their
understanding of the informal economy. Lastly, the study empowers vendors themselves by
raising awareness among policymakers and fostering collaboration. By highlighting the needs
and challenges faced by street food vendors, the study creates an environment conducive to the
improvement of street vending as a whole, leading to better livelihoods and opportunities for
vendors.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
A conceptual model is a framework that is initially used in research to outline the
possible courses of action or to present an idea or thought. When a conceptual model is
developed in a logical manner, it will provide a rigor to the research process. (Elangon, N. &
Rajendran, R. 2020).

The study will only focus on the street vendors in Brgy sta Cruz , which are randomly
selected.This will not cover any other learning modalities or other factors that may affect the
strategies or business of the vendors in the Brgy Sta.Cruz. The study would be done through
the utilization of questionnaires or interviews that would be asked to the vendors as a survey

HYPOTHESIS
Null Hypothesis (H0): There is no statistically significant difference in the business operation
strategies employed by street food vendors near the school along Olalia Road, Brgy. Sta Cruz.
This hypothesis sets the basis for the research to investigate whether there is a
significant difference in the business operation strategies utilized by street food vendors near
the specified school. The null hypothesis assumes no significant difference, while the alternative
hypothesis suggests that a difference exists. The research will aim to determine which
hypothesis holds true based on the collected data and analysis.

This chapter provides relevant literature and relevant studies on the Strategies Utilized by
the Street Food Vendors Operating their Business in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Antipolo National
High School.
RELATED LITERATURE
Having a business is crucial in industry of course especially if you are a new
entrepreneur in a business world. Street vending is a common business operation that you can
see anywhere, even at the outside of your house. By operating this business, street food
vendors implement strategies to improve or become more profitable their business when
operating.
These people generally possess low skills and lack the level of education required for
the better paid jobs in the organized sectors. This has led to the rapid growth of the informal
sector in most of the larger cities. For the urban poor, street vending has become one of the
major means of earning a livelihood, as it requires minor low initial investment and efforts in
searching for a job and the skills involved are low.
Redento B. Recio (2019) stated about 2.5 billion people, or half of the global labor force,
work in the informal economy, the International Labour Organisation estimates. In developing
Asian countries, more than 50% of the urban labor force is in informal work. Street vending is
the most visible form of this. Yet no accurate statistics on street vendors are available.Official
planning documents do not include informal trading activities; they are “off the map”. This
invisibility largely stems from state rules that consider street vending illegal. Amid the harsh
policies, street vendors devise ways to cope with poverty and their insecure livelihood.
According to Van Der Biezen (2023) small food vendors in Metro Manila grapple with a
multitude of challenges that not only affect their daily operations but also cast shadows over
their prospects in the evolving urban economy. Among these challenges, two central issues

emerge; a lack of sufficient capital and a limited understanding of business essentials, both of
which result in inadequate income levels. The hurdles that compound their lack of income
encompass a range of factors, including the fluctuating supply of products and prices, a decline
in regular customers, competition, and seasonal hurdles, such as the challenges posed by dry
weather that causes food items to wilt before they can be sold and reduced sales during the
rainy season.Street food vendors can't operate properly because of the challenges they
encounter for their daily operations but as a netizen of a country huñman street vendors have
also advocated for policies that promote their social and economic rights, such as access to
credit, training, and social protection.
However, according to a study by Marielle M. Bayan and Oujilyn Key R. Valdezay (2015)
it was revealed that the details of the vendors' strategy are more than repetitive; uniqueness of
the selling product; with good product appearance; analysis of competitors; Ambulant type of
selling gives importance to location;cost-based pricing strategy with same price as appraisal;
always give customer discounts; promote products through word-of-mouth; sell products seven
days a week; develop storage practices in their home while others do not; cleanliness is
considered important; and value their customers well. These are some of the suggested
strategies for maintaining the income of a street food vendor. By applying this, vendors can
achieve their goal in building their business.
RELATED STUDIES
Selling street food is a popular livelihood in many nations, giving locals and tourists
access to reasonably priced and practical food options. However, street food vendors frequently
deal with a variety of difficulties, including resource scarcity, legal problems, competition, and
safety concerns. That's why they implement strategies and ways to improve their business to
operate properly and to overcome some challenges that need to be addressed to keep running
the business they have.
Jaishankar, & Sujatha, (2016) stated that the street vendors were unable to obtain
regular employment in the well-paying formal due to their lack of training and knowledge in the
area. They strive to fix their livelihood problems with their small cash resources. Fruit and
vegetable growers and small-scale businesses who cannot afford to sell their products in stores
would face a dreadful calamity through overpriced formal sector distribution networks if they
were to disappear from urban markets.
However, on the other side, street food vending provides many opportunities like market
heterogeneity, economic flexibility for the city dwellers and often urban safety. Instead of looking
at street vendors as an eye sore, they can be integrated into the urban fabric. The parameters
of sustainable development can be better incorporated through understanding the relevance of

street food vending in establishing vibrant public places, as a means to promote healthy food to
the urban poor, playing a vital role in augmenting the food security of a city and in strengthening
the economic capacity of the city by promoting food tourism. Activities along the street are
multivariate, with different actors and activities playing a role.
Staatz, J., & Hollinger, F. (2016) stated that the expansion of street food (in Africa) is
explained by rapid urbanization and the multiple constraints associated with it (distance
between workplaces and home, poverty and development of women’s activity, the bursting of
family solidarity, appearance of new food styles). In addition, for lack of adequate means of
transport, of time, of an efficient system of collective catering, such as canteens in the
workplace, many Africans buy food on the street, at little cost compared to what they pay. What
would a meal cost them in a restaurant or even at home?
Street vendors are a very important part of the informal sector in the country. It is
estimated that around 80 percent of the population are engaged in the street vending
profession. Women form a large segment of street vending in almost every city. Street vending
is not only a source of self-employment to the poor in cities and towns but also a means to
provide “affordable” as well as “convenient” services to a majority of the urban population.
A study by J Hill (2019) In the present global economic crisis and continued rapid
urbanization, street food (SF) vending has grown into a practical source of income for people in
the developing world. SF are not only appreciated for their unique flavours, convenience, and
affordability they also contribute to the economy of the country, the perseverance of cultural and
social heritage of society, as well as the potential for maintaining and improving the nutritional
status of populations.
Street food micro-industries are vital for the economic planning and development of
many towns. The contribution of street food vendors to the economies of developing countries
has been vastly underestimated and neglected.Because of the rapid rise in urban populations
and increasing awareness of the limited employment generated by large-scale industries,
planners are beginning to acknowledge the importance of the informal sector.

Ambulant vendors or peddlers shall be allowed to carry on their trade or business in any public
places, streets or roads. Provided, however, That they are subject to such reasonable rules and

compromise the safety and health of their clients.
SYNTHESIS
Street food vending is a prevalent form of entrepreneurship in the informal economy,
both in the Philippines and globally. However, street vendors face challenges in securing regular
employment in the formal sector due to a lack of training and expertise. Despite these
challenges, street food vending offers opportunities for market heterogeneity, economic
flexibility, and urban safety. Integrating street vendors into the urban fabric can contribute to
sustainable development by creating vibrant public spaces, promoting healthy food options for
the urban poor, enhancing food security, and boosting the economic capacity of cities through
food tourism.
Street vending plays a significant role in the informal economy, accounting for a
substantial portion of GDP in developing countries and providing employment for millions of
people worldwide. It fosters social interactions, builds community relationships, and serves as a
gathering space for people from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, street vending has
environmental benefits, such as reducing food waste, supporting local food systems, and
minimizing packaging and plastic waste.
In Metro Manila, small food vendors face various challenges that impact their daily
operations and overall prospects in the urban economy. These challenges include a lack of
capital and a limited understanding of essential business practices, resulting in inadequate
income levels. Factors like fluctuating supply and prices, a decline in regular customers,
competition, and seasonal hurdles further compound their income struggles. Street food
vendors advocate for policies that support their social and economic rights, such as access to
credit, training, and social protection.

CHAPTER 3
METHODOLOGY
RESEARCH DESIGN
This study adopted a survey research design to systematically collect data and assess
public opinion on various subjects, specifically focusing on the Business Operation Strategies of
the Street Food Vendors nearby School along the Olalia Road, Brgy.Sta Cruz.
RESEARCH LOCALE
This study will be undertaken at Olalia Road, Barangay Santa Cruz, Antipolo City. .
This study will mainly focus on the street food vendor for the information that the
researchers need about the specific topic. The place that we choose is the particular place
that is accessible to every participant that researchers need. The location has enough
participant learners for the survey that researchers have to accomplish.

SOURCE OF DATA
The main sources of data in the study are the street food vendors in Barangay Sta. Cruz,
specifically along Olalia Road , during the third quarter of the first semester from February to
April 2024 of the school year 2024, with a total number of ten (10) street food vendors
participants. Samples are selected using the probability sampling technique, specifically simple
random sampling. Street food vendors in Barangay Sta. Cruz serves as the subjects of the
study as representatives of the target population. The decision to choose vendors in Barangay
Sta. Cruz depends on factors such as convenience, quality, variety, price, customer service, and
reputation. Vendors near Barangay Sta. Cruz might be chosen for their convenience, as people
often prefer vendors who are close by, making goods more accessible without traveling far.

Table 1 revealed that an equal number of respondents was chosen from a randomly
chosen group with the number and percentage. There were a total of ten (10) respondents in
the study.

concerns. The researchers confirmed that the respondent agrees to disclose relevant
information for research purposes only.
RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS
The researchers will use interviews by partnering of survey questionnaires with a using
likert scale and checklist which are close-ended to gather the data of the strategies of the street
food vendors in Olalia Rd, Brgy Sta. Cruz. A systematically prepared form with a set of
questions designed to get and produce responses from the respondents. The likert scale
prepared by the researchers contains 5 likert and checklist items. The items are inside a table,
each column has a corresponding scale (strongly agree, agree, fair, disagree, strongly disagree)
in which respondents choose his or her response by checking tick-marks.
According to Sathiyaseelan, M. (2015) The research instruments are the tools that the
researcher uses to collect data. There are different types of instruments based on the structure
or format, purpose, nature, and availability. The common types of instruments used in the
nursing studies are questionnaires and scales. Instruments are selected based on the research
question.
On the other hand, Simple random sampling is a technique in which each member of a
population has an equal chance of being chosen through an unbiased selection method. Each
subject in the sample is given a number, and then the sample is chosen randomly (Simkus,
2023).
The researchers conducted interviews with the participants to collect the necessary data.
An interview is a qualitative research method in which questions are asked to gather data
(George, 2022). The researchers asked prepared questions for the interview via personal.
DATA ANALYSIS
The researchers will use Frequency Distribution Analysis as the statistical tool for their
study. Frequency Distribution Analysis will be a representation that will display the number of
observations within an interval in a tabular or graphical format.

The researchers will use this tool because it will be the easiest way to interpret and analyze
data with the type of survey questionnaire that they will use.
First, the researcher will ask and make a consent paper with 2 letters to be signed by the
Inquiries, Investigation and Immersion teacher and together with the School principal to get an
approval to conduct an interview outside of the school, and for the second consent was for the
respondent of the study. The researchers will make sure that the information of the respondent
will keep it private and confidential for their own sakes.
When the consent paper is done and gets signed by the teacher and principal of the
school, the researcher will create or make questionnaires for the street food vendors that will
suit their knowledge and comprehension about the strategies that they will put forth when some
challenges occur in their business. Once the researcher was done making the list of research,
the researcher will be validated by the Inquiries,Investigation and Immersion teacher including
the other group of the research to verify if the list/question was ok and ready to be asked to the
respondent.
After the validation of the question, the researcher will select or choose a random street
food vendor in choosing as the respondent. The researcher will select randomly street food
vendors with a total of 10 respondents that will participate in the study.
Then after the researchers selected randomly the respondent that will participate in the
study, the researcher will now conduct an interview to the 10 chosen respondents with a
consent letter and with having an agreement of the confidentiality and privacy of the respondent
identity.
And lastly, after the interview with the street food vendors and gather the data. The
researcher will comply, analyze and interpret based on the data gathered.
The study will involve conducting a survey among street food vendors in Brgy. Sta. Cruz,
Olalia Road, to gather data on their business strategies, challenges, marketing techniques, and
customer preferences. Additionally, street food vendors will be examining their preparation
processes, customer interactions, location choices, and overall business operations for
comprehension into their strategies and operations. The analysis of surveys and interviews will

identify common strategies used by street food vendors in Brgy. Sta. Cruz, Olalia Road, guiding
recommendations for business improvement. Throughout the research process, ensuring the
accuracy and comprehensiveness of the data collected from the survey responses obtained
from the street food vendors will be paramount.
SOURCE OF DATA
The main sources of data in the study are the street food vendors in Barangay Sta. Cruz,
specifically along Olalia Road , during the third quarter of the first semester from February to
April 2024 of the school year 2024, with a total number of ten (10) street food vendors
participants. Samples are selected using the probability sampling technique, specifically simple
random sampling. Street food vendors in Barangay Sta. Cruz serves as the subjects of the
study as representatives of the target population. The decision to choose vendors in Barangay
Sta. Cruz depends on factors such as convenience, quality, variety, price, customer service, and
reputation. Vendors near Barangay Sta. Cruz might be chosen for their convenience, as people
often prefer vendors who are close by, making goods more accessible without traveling far.
STATISTICAL TREATMENT
ln this study on the Business Operation Strategies of the Street Food Vendors
nearby School along the Olalia Road, Brgy.Sta Cruz., the following statistical tools were
used to analyze and interpret the collected data:
To determine how those strategies help the street food vendors in Brgy. Sta. Cruz, Olalia
Road in terms of competitors and customers, weighted mean was used to measure the general
response of the samples, whether they agreed or not, from the data gathered from the
conducted survey;
To determine the significant difference between Business Operations and Strategies of the
Street Food Vendors nearby school along Olalia Road. Brgy. Sta Cruz, the t-test will be used
.This is a type of statistical test used to evaluate the differences between two sets of data that
were used; to determine if there is a statistically difference between the two learning modalities
that affect the class performance of Grade 12 ABM students.

This chapter deals with the presentation, analysis and interpretation of the data.
The following table shows are based on the SOP 1 survey questionnaire that What are
the primary strategies employed by the Street Food Vendors along school nearby Olalia
Road, Brgy. Sta Cruz

Highest Educational Attainment of the Respondent
Figure 1 shows the highest degree or level of education achieved by a group of
individuals of street food vendors in Olalia road Brgy sta. Cruz . Majority of the respondent with
a 60%t are high school graduates,while both College and Elementary have 20%.This suggests
that the majority of individuals in the group have completed high school, with smaller
percentages having completed only elementary school or having pursued some college
education up to the first year.

Figure 2 Shows that 100% of the respondents used the Marketing strategies.Marketing
strategy is an organization's promotional efforts to allocate its resources across a wide range of
platforms and channels to increase its sales and achieve sustainable competitive advantage
within its corresponding market. With a use of 7p’s of marketing, street food vendors identify
their purpose for making and creating a new and producing more product.

Figure 3 shows that “Being realistic and Honest about your product is 50%” is the
highest percentage while the “Reverse Negative Feedback” and “Focus on building relationship”
are same percentage which is 25%, So it means the most of vendors in brgy.Sta cruz, the sale
tactics that they use to promote their product is “Being realistic and honest about your product.

Figure 4 shows how the street food vendors employed a customer engagement that
contributed to the attention and retention of its customer. We can see that 43.8% was the
highest which is warm calling.Warm calling is you connecting with prospects who have already
shown some level of interest or familiarity with your company or product, which help Street Food
Vendors to know their business.The second one is 31.3 which builds a relationship that can lead
to the vendors and customers to become loyal customers and trusted businesses. And 25% for
being realistic to their product.

Figure 5 shows that the Street Food Vendors usually used the Market Penetration with
80% of the respondents answered this. Market penetration strategies aim to attract buyers by
offering lower prices on goods and services.That’s why they become known for being
affordable. While the 20% is price skimming. Price skimming involves setting rates high during
the introductory phase. This is designed to help businesses maximize sales on new products
and services.

How does these strategies help you to boost your business
Figure 6 shows that the Street food vendors implement the strategies to help their
business boost if they enhance the customer loyalty with a 43.8%. This means they keep
building a relationship with its customers,while 37.5 they build reputation and trust, because
having a business you're making a reputation to keep your business stand out to your
competitors and making sure that it can be trusted and legible. 12.5% for differentiating from
competitors and the remaining 6.3% is sustainable growth. Sustainable growth means even just
street food vendors, it helps our economy to be sustainable and stable for the GDP of the
country.

head to those competitors. Overall, this data suggests that the Street Food Vendors need to
focus on making new strategies to overcome those competitors and staying ahead of them.

loyalty is very important for business in building relationships and customer loyalty. Because
customers are, first and foremost, the lifeblood of every company; without them, there would be
no business. Businesses must use every effort to attract and retain customers since they are the
source of the income required for survival and expansion. Overall, this data suggests the
importance of customers in business is very needed to continue the run of it

1.79, at the 5% level of significance. The statistical decision fails to reject the null hypothesis.

SUMMARY
This study focused on the Business Operations Strategies of the Street Food Vendors
along Olalia Road, Brgy. Sta. Cruz during the School Year of 2024. The study aimed to
determine the primary strategies employed by street food vendors, assess how these strategies
benefit them, and investigate if there are significant differences in the benefits experienced by
vendors near schools along Olalia Road, Brgy. Sta Cruz.
The study utilized a survey research design with a randomly selected group of street
food vendors near schools along Olalia Road, Brgy. Sta Cruz. A 10-item objective survey
questionnaire was used, consisting of Likert scale choices and checklists. The questionnaire
assessed marketing and sale tactics, pricing, customer engagement methods, and the impact
on competitors and customers.
Statistical tools such as frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and paired t-test in one
independent sample were employed to analyze the gathered data.
2. Benefits of strategies implemented by street food vendors in Brgy. Sta. Cruz, Olalia Road:
a. Survey questionnaire with a Likert scale was administered to assess the impact on
competitors and customers.
b. Mean values were calculated from the tally sheet.
c. Conclusion was drawn based on the test-statistic value and critical t value.
d. Appropriate null and alternative hypotheses were formulated regarding sample proportion.

The computed mean for competitors is 6.1 (strongly agree) with a standard deviation of 2.2.
For customers, the computed mean is 6.7 (strongly agree) with a standard deviation of 1.89.
The computed t-value is 0.11, and the critical t-value is 1.79. Based on the analysis, the results
indicate that there is not enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis (Ho). The p-value of 0.11
and the critical t-value of 1.79 suggest that the differences observed in the benefits of strategies
implemented by street food vendors are not statistically significant. Therefore, we fail to reject
the null hypothesis, indicating that there are no significant differences between the benefits
experienced by street food vendors in their business operations near the school along Olalia
Road, Brgy. Sta Cruz.
CONCLUSION
The findings of the study revealed that the most common marketing and sales tactics
employed by street food vendors included pricing strategies and customer engagement
methods. These strategies were perceived to be beneficial in terms of both competitors and
customers.
However, by analyzing the data and comparing the mean values, it was determined that
there was no significant difference in the benefits of these strategies among the vendors
operating near the school. The statistical analysis indicated that the results were not statistically
significant, leading to the failure to reject the null hypothesis.
Based on these findings, it can be concluded that while street food vendors in the area
employ various strategies to attract customers and compete with other vendors, there is no
significant difference in the perceived benefits of these strategies. This suggests that the
effectiveness of these strategies may be similar among the vendors studied.

RECOMMENDATION
Students: Based on the findings of this study on the business operations strategies of street
food vendors, it is recommended for future students conducting research in similar areas to
consider exploring the effectiveness of alternative marketing and sales tactics beyond pricing
strategies and customer engagement methods. Future students could consider examining the
role of external factors such as location, customer demographics, and economic conditions in
shaping the effectiveness of these strategies.
Street food vendors: Based on this study, it shows that employing various strategies to attract
customers yields similar perceived benefits among vendors. Therefore, consider diversifying the
approach by focusing on quality, unique offerings, and engaging customer experiences to stand
out in the competitive landscape. Additionally, prioritize building strong customer relationships to
foster loyalty in business.
Teachers: The researchers' sources can gain ideas and knowledge for the teachers and can be
both helpful for the learners if they want to teach it to them. It can be a relevant topic and be
mindful for their future strategies not only on their profession
Future Researchers: This study lays a solid foundation for future research concerning
business strategies. It not only offers valuable insights into street food vendors' business
strategies and their impact on operations but also serves as a guiding resource for other
researchers in their future studies.
