Overall, housing emerged as the most significant expenditure for most countries, except Japan,
where food took the largest share. Healthcare consistently accounted for the lowest percentage of
spending in all four nations.
A closer look at the data reveals that the USA allocated the highest percentage to housing, at
nearly 27%, followed by Canada and the UK, both at approximately 22% and 21%, respectively.
Japan, however, spent noticeably less on this category, at only around 15%. In contrast, food
expenditures in Japan reached nearly 24%, significantly surpassing the figures for the other three
countries, where spending on food ranged from about 10% to 15%.
Regarding transportation, the USA stood out with the highest share at roughly 15%, while
Canada, the UK, and Japan had more modest allocations of around 10%. The most striking
discrepancy lies in healthcare spending: the USA allocated nearly 8%, far higher than the other
nations, all of which remained below 5%. Lastly, spending on clothing was the most uniform,
varying slightly between 5% and 7% across all four countries.
In summary, while housing and food emerged as the dominant areas of expenditure, healthcare
consistently received the least attention. The USA showed a strong preference for housing and
healthcare, while Japan prioritized food.
