Preparing for a Job Interview

Preparing for a Job Interview

How do you feel about job interviews? Some people love them, because they can show off their skills and
hopefully land the job of their dreams. For others, job interviews are extremely nerve-racking and the cause of
great stress. You’re unlikely to get a job without sort some of an interview the company uses their time with you
to get a sense of your personality, attitude and of course, to see how you react under pressure. But whether
you’re a seasoned interviewee or you have your first job interview ever, there are some key things you can do to
prepare yourself. After all, when it comes to job interviews, failing to prepare is preparing to fail!

1. Do Your Research

Know your CV inside and out. This includes dates of your previous positions, job duties and special skills. For each role on your CV, make a
list of key accomplishments that you achieved and think of situations where you used your skills—your interviewer will want to know
about these.

You also need to do research on the company itself. Go through their website in detail and take notes. This will help you answer any
questions they may pose about the company, and will also help you to prepare questions to ask them at the end of the interview. Most
companies now have Twitter and Facebook accounts where you can find more information about the company like special events, charity
work, and even their current employee’s success stories.

2. Mind Your Appearance

Like it or not, your appearance says more about you than you think. Within a few seconds of seeing you,
your interviewers will form an opinion about your personality and work habits. Looking your best will
start your interview on a positive note and give you more confidence. Consider the following tips:

Wear clothes that will match the company dress code. For example- a creative designer may wear
more casual clothes to work than someone who works in an investment firm. If you are unsure, a
tailored shirt and dress pants are always a safe bet.
Wear you hair in a neat and tidy hairstyle.
Smelling clean and fresh is a must, however skip the powerful cologne or perfume—many people have sensitivities to strong scents.
Pay attention to the small details- get rid of any loose threads, replace missing buttons and make sure your shoes are polished.
3. Build Your Confidence

Preparing well for an interview is worthless if you crumble under the pressure as soon as you get there. Build your conference before the
interview by thinking positively and doing a few test runs for practice. You never know what to expect in an interview, but by going
through interview FAQs you can set yourself up for success.

Key phrases during job interviews
