LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 6

The Human Organ Systems at Work

Prepared By:

Leizly Clare C. Fernandez, BEED-2

OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of the

different organ systems and their functions.

B. Performance Standard The learner is able to describe the functions of the

different organ systems and their importance in
maintaining homeostasis.

C. Learning Competencies Explain how the organs of each organ system work
together (S6LT- IIa-b-1)

1. Unpacked Competency The learner can identify and explain the functions of the
major human organ systems, including the circulatory,
respiratory, digestive, excretory, nervous, and skeletal
systems.

B. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: The Human Organ Systems at Work

B. Science Ideas  The human body is made up of different

organ systems.
 Each organ system has a specific function.
 The organ systems work together to keep
the body functioning properly.
 Homeostasis is the maintenance of a
stable internal environment.
 The coordinated function of organs within
a system ensures the overall well-being of
the organism.

C. Science Processes  Observation

 Data Collection
 Analysis
 Interpretation
 Collaboration

D. Visual Focus  Charts or diagrams of the human organ

systems
 Pictures of organs and their functions
 Videos demonstrating the functions of the
organ systems.
 Interactive simulations of organ system
interactions

E. Materials  Whiteboard or projector

 Markers or pens
 Handouts with diagrams of the organ
systems
 Model of the human body (optional)
 Computer with internet access for video
and simulation access

F. References  Science textbook for Grade 6

 Online resources such as Khan Academy,
National Geographic, or websites with
information on the human body.

G. Other Learning Resources  Videos on the human body (e.g., BrainPop,

YouTube educational videos)
 Interactive games or simulations about the
human body

I. LEARNING ACTIVITIES

A. Engage

1. Drill Quick Quiz: Ask students to name the organ systems

they already know.

2. Review Remind students about the different types of cells,

tissues, and organs they learned in previous lessons.

B. EXPLORE

1. Motivation Show students a picture or video of a healthy person

engaging in various activities (running, playing, eating).
Ask them how these activities are possible and how
different parts of the body work together.
2. Presentation Incorporate a video that visually represent "The Human
Organ Systems at Work" during the presentation.
Discuss how these videos demonstrate the interactions
and functions of the different systems.

Discuss each organ system in detail. Use visuals and

examples to help students understand. Emphasize the
interdependence of the organs within each system.

- Example: When discussing the circulatory system,

show how the heart pumps blood, which carries oxygen
and nutrients to the lungs and other tissues, and how
this is essential for respiration, digestion, and waste
removal.

3. Pre-Activity Divide students into 6 groups, namely, circulatory,

respiratory, digestive, excretory, nervous, and skeletal
systems. Assign each group a different organ system to
research and create a short presentation about its
function and how the organs within that system work
together.

A. Evaluate Have students complete a short written assessment

where they answer questions about the functions of
different organ systems and how they work together.

Worksheet: The Human Organ Systems at Work

Instructions: Answer the following questions about the

human organ systems. Use your notes from class and
the information you have learned about each system.

1. What are the main functions of the circulatory

system?

2. List three organs that are part of the respiratory

system.

3. What happens to food as it travels through the

digestive system?

4. How does the nervous system help to control

movement?
5. Give two examples of hormones produced by the
endocrine system and their functions.

6. What are the two main functions of the skeletal

system?

7. Explain how the muscular system is involved in

movement.

8. What is the primary role of the urinary system in

maintaining homeostasis?

9. How does the integumentary system protect the

body?

10. Explain the concept of homeostasis and why it is

essential for the human body.

I. Assignment Students can create a graphic organizer that

summarizes the different organ systems, their
functions, and the ways in which the organs within each
system interact and collaborate. This can be assigned as
an extension activity for students who need further
practice.
