“How to report questions”
- ).( ‫عند تحويل السؤال من مباشر لمنقول نستبدل ال (؟) بال‬
‫وذلك الننا حولنا من ترتيب سؤال لترتيب جمله‬.
Yes/No questions: (use: sub + asked + (object) + (if/whether)
-Do you like coffee? He asked me if/whether I liked coffee.
(use: sub + wanted to know if/ whether)
-Were you at the meeting yesterday? She wanted to know if I
had been at the meeting the day before.
WH-questions: (use: sub + asked + (object) + (Wh-question)
-“What time does the train leave” He asked me what time the
train left.
(use: sub + wanted to know + (Wh-question)
-How can I get to the lecture theatre? He wanted to know how
he could get to the lecture theatre.
That -‫تحويل الجمل العادية تماما مع افعال‬

Use said (that):
-“I will come” He said that he would come
--“I will come” He told me that he would come

-‫تحويل الجمل االمرية‬:
Use told/ordered
-“Meet me here today” He told /ordered me to meet him
there that day.
-“Don’t meet me here today” He told /ordered me not to
meet him there that day.

-‫تحويل الجمل الطلبية‬:


-Use asked
-“Buy the fish” He asked me to buy the fish.

-‫التحويل العكسي‬:
-He/she said that he/she was going to school. “I am going to
school”
-She told me that she liked the movie. “I like the/this/that
movie”
-The professor told us to remember 90% of the world’s natural
disasters. ( (to + infinitive -‫)انتبه ان الجمله بدأت‬ “Remember
90% of the world’s natural disasters.”
Examples:
-“She can’t read” He said that she could not read.
-“They have not eaten their lunch” The mother said that they
had not eaten their lunch.
-She said that she couldn’t listen to music. “She can’t listen to
music” or “She couldn’t listen to music”
-“We are going to be at the meeting this afternoon” They said
that they were going to be at the meeting that afternoon.

‫هناك بعض الحاالت ال نغير فيها الكالم المنقول ويبقى كما هو‬
:
1-We do not change direct speech into reported speech when the
reporting verb is in the present tense. (‫)المضارع البسيط او التام‬
-“He says it’s really important to help all the villages in the area!
2-We may choose not to change direct speech when the action is
still happening or is going to happen. ‫ال يزال الوضع او الحدث‬
‫قائم‬
-He said he’s going to do the same at another village next week as
well.
3-We may also choose not to change when the direct speech
describes a general truth or fact. ‫حقيقة ال تزال صحيحة‬
-“He says he’s really determined to make the project work.”
