Coffee Uganda Export and Types Report

In July 2023, Uganda exported 645,832 bags of coffee valued at US$ 104.99 million, marking a 12.16% increase in quantity and a 25.85% increase in value compared to the same month last year. Key Highlights Coffee exports for 12 months (August 2022-July 2023)

2. Exports by Type and Grade

3. Individual Exporter Performance Figure 2: Top 10 Exporting Companies by percentage market share
Figure 2 shows the top 10 export companies’ performance in the
month of July 2023. Ugacof (U) Ltd had the highest market share of
14.35% compared to 15.77% in July 2023. It was followed by Olam
Uganda Ltd 9.33% (9.54%); Ideal Quality Commodities Ltd 7.78%
(10.30%) Louis Dreyfus Company (U) Ltd 7.55% (8.22%); Kyagalanyi
Coffee Ltd 7.11% (6.12%), Touton Uganda Limited 6.90% (5.96%);
Kawacom (U)Ltd 6.33% (5.17%); JBER Coffee Ltd 4.34% (5.03%); Ibero
(U)Ltd 4.27% (3.88%); and Besmark Coffee Company Limited 3.60%
(2.59%) *The figures in brackets represent percentage market share
held in June 2023.
The top 10 exporters held a market share of 72% higher that 71%
the previous month reflecting increasing competition. Changes in
exporter positions compared to last month show competition at this
level. Out of the 53 exporters that performed, 32 exported Robusta
Coffee only while 6 exported Arabica coffee only. Annex 2 shows a
detailed list of exporters’ performance in July 2023.

The coffee extension outreach recorded 129 farmer trainings
benefiting 2,224 farmers (1759M,465F,218Y). The trainings were
complimented with 11 radio talk shows. On the other hand, other
technical extension services conducted included the registration of
202 value chain actors (11 stores, 6 hullers, 27 buyers and 127
factories). The pests and disease surveillance missions undertaken
revealed that the Black coffee twig borer (BCTB) and Coffee Berry
Borer (CBB) were the major pests observed in most Robusta
growing regions, while Coffee leaf rust and the Red Blister Disease
(RBD) were common in both Arabica and Robusta growing areas.

9. Outlook for August 2023


Coffee exports are projected to be 600,000 bags. The main
harvesting season in Greater Masaka and South-Western
regions which will is at the tail end.
