● This question paper is divided into five sections – A, B, C, D and E.

● In section B – question no. 17 to 21 are very short answer (VSA) type questions, carrying 2 marks each.
● In section C – question no. 22 to 28 are short answer (SA) type questions, carrying 3 marks each.
● In section D – question no 29 and 30 are case-based questions carrying 4 marks each.
● In section E – question no 31 to 33 are long answer (LA) type questions, carrying 5 marks each.
SECTION- A
1. Calculate the electric field intensity due to an electric dipole of length 5 cm and consisting of two charges
± 1 μC at a distance of 100 cm from each charge.

2. A charged oil drop remains stationary when situated between two parallel plates 20 mm apart and an

21) A convex lens of focal length 30 cm and concave lens of focal length 60 cm are placed in combination. If
the object is placed 40 cm away from the combination, find the position of the image.

22) Calculate the binding energy (in MeV) of a helium nucleus (24𝐻𝑒). Given mass of 24𝐻𝑒 = 4.0026
a.m.u., mass of a proton = 1.0073 a.m.u. and mass of a neutron = 1.0087 a.m.u.
23) Infinite number of identical charges each carrying charge q are placed along the x-axis at a distance a,
2a, 3a, 4a,...from the origin. Calculate the magnitude of the electric field at the origin due to this
distribution of charges.
24) Prove the laws of refraction with the help of Huygens’ principle.

29) Read the following paragraph and answer the questions that follow:
A prism is a portion of a transparent medium bounded by two planes face inclined to each other at a
suitable angle. A ray of light suffers two refractions on passing through a prism and hence deviates through
a certain angle from its original path. The angle of deviation of a prism is δ = (μ-1)A, through which a ray
deviates on passing through a thin prism of small refracting angle A. If μ is the refractive index of the
material of the prism, then the prism formula is
μ = sin (A+δm/2) / sin (A/2)
i) For which colour, the angle of deviation is minimum?
ii) What is the angle of incidence if the deviation through a prism is maximum?
iii) A thin prism of 2° angle gives a deviation of 1°. What is the value of refractive index of the

30) Read the following paragraph and answer the questions that follow:
When a current I flows through a coil, flux linked with it is φ = LI, where L is a constant known as self
inductance of the coil. Any change in current sets up an induced emf in the coil. Thus, self inductance of a
coil is the induced emf set up in it when the current passing through it changes at the unit rate. It is a
measure of the opposition to the growth or the decay of current flowing through the coil. Also, value of self
inductance depends on the number of turns in the solenoid, its area of cross-section and the permeability
of its core material.
