Well, if I have to make a decision among the three options above, I would
choose going to the beach this weekend with my buddies. There are several
reasons for my choice. First of all, I was born and grew up in Ha Long City,
where has lots of picturesque beaches, so I am also keen on going to the beach
in order to sunbathe(sun- bây). When I was lying and soaking(sớc kinh) up the
sun, I could feel the soft sea breeze(briz) and enjoy the sparkling sun on the
water, which was immensely fantastic. Secondly, going to the beach also helps
me kick back and relax after my studies. As I must be up to ears with my studies
year round, so this’s a wonderful time for me to have some chit-chat and share
anything with my close friends. In addition, sunlight on the beach also helps me
generate vitamin D, which is extremely essential to health.

About going to a concert, personally I think it's a good idea. However, it is

difficult to find a suitable concert for all of us because my friends and I have
little interest in music in common. For example, I’m interested in English songs
but my friends want to listen to Vietnamese ones. So we cannot go to a concert
together.

I don’t choose going to a restaurant because we are all picky /ˈpɪk.i/ eaters. We
also desire to spend our time going out as well as playing outdoor activities
whenever we have a day off rather than eat something.

To sum up, from my point of view, going to the beach is the most ideal choice
for me and my friends after finishing our final examination.

2. Situation: When you are old, what would you like to spend most of your
time doing?
- Doing the gardening
- Travelling
- Doing voluntary work
Which do you think is the best option?

Well, if I have to make a decision among the three options above, I would
choose to do voluntary /ˈvɒl.ən.tər.i/ work when I’m old. There are several
reasons for my choice. Firstly, most of my life I’ve been up to ears with my
work, so it’s better to spend the retired ones helping less fortunate /ˈfɔː.tʃən.ət/
people through philanthropic(phi lơn thropist) actions. By giving charitable
donations, I can find new meaning and direction in my life. Some people think
doing volunteer work is a waste of time but in my opinion, I feel very happy to
bring happiness /ˈhæp.i.nəs/ to other people. Secondly, loneliness /ˈləʊn.li.nəs/
is the scariest thing for the elderly. Thus, becoming a volunteer not only makes
me happier but also helps me make more friends and in some ways be more
connected with my society.

About doing the gardening, personally I think it's a good idea. However, even
now when I was young, I've always had a small garden in front of my house.
Therefore, gardening is so familiar /fəˈmɪl.i.ər/ to me, I really want to do a new
and more practical job when I retire.

I don’t choose travelling because when I'm old, I'm not strong enough to go to
the lands I want. I will try to fulfill /fʊlˈfɪl/ this dream from now on.

To sum up, from my point of view, doing voluntary work is the most ideal
choice for me when I’m old.

3. Situation: You have difficulties in learning Maths

- Finding a tutor
- Finding an extra class
- Studying with your friends
Which do you think is the best option?

Well, if I have to make a decision among the three options above, I would
choose to find a tutor/ˈtʃuː.tər/ who can help me learn Maths better. There are
several reasons for my choice. Firstly, learning with a tutor keeps me in a state
of intense concentration through one-on-one attention, so thanks to this way the
tutor gets to know my individual style in solving Maths exercises. Then, they
point out what I am good at or bad at, maybe I apply the wrong formula or steps
not following the right progress. When the tutor knows these problems like the
back of their hand, they will create a proper schedule to enhance(in hans) the
holes for me by giving tips or strategies. Secondly, they spend almost all of their
focus and teaching on me, not anyone else. For instance, when I make a mistake
in doing exercises, they are immediately elaborating /iˈlæb.ər.ət/ on (giải
thích) and repairing it for me. Finally, through teaching one to one that I deeply
understand thanks to teaching carefully from the tutor. If I don’t understand
something, they will guide me step by step to make sure that I can apply it to
complete the exercise.

Finding an extra class is also good to reform learning Maths. However, the extra
class might be so crowded that over 10 or 20 students on average, it is easy to
lose concentration by noises. Besides, the teacher can not care for me because
of having too many students in the class.

It is really hard to study with my friends because they are not good at Math.
That is why I can not ask them about Math exercises.

For all of these reasons, it shows clearly that finding a tutor is the best choice to
improve and pass difficulties in learning Maths.

4. Situation: You have to participate in a sports event in your university

- Swimming
- Soccer
- Dancing
Which do you think is the best option?

Well, if I have to make a decision among the three options above. I would choose to take part
in swimming activities. There are several reasons for my choice. First of all, swimming is a
water sport which is enjoyed by people of all ages as they can enjoy refreshing themselves
underwater and relieve stress after a hard-working day. It can also develop height and help
people keep in shape effectively. Secondly, drowning (đuối nước) is always a concern for
all people especially children when many people die mainly from this problem every year.
Particularly, rural parents are not having enough awareness of the dangers of drowning, so it
is only frequent among children in these areas. That's the reason parents need to invest more
for their children in learning swimming skills to help them protect themselves.
Soccer is known as the king of sport and is loved by people around the world; however, I
don’t have much interest in playing it. This is a sport that requires a lot of physical as well as
skills such as good fitness, accuracy when passing the ball and dexterity(đếch- ste- ri- ty):
khéo léo in the use of tactics chiến thuật so I think it is not appropriate for lazy people like
me.

Dancing also requires a lot of skills like suppleness(sắp bồ nớt): sự dẻo dai and
decisiveness(đi sai siveness): sự dứt khoát in each movement. It is really hard to learn that’s
why I don’t choose it.

To sum up, from my point of view, swimming is the most ideal choice for me.

5. Situation: Your best friend is going to start a business. She asks you for
advice on the kind of shop to start
- A clothes shop
- A bookshop
- A food stall
Which do you think is the best option?

Well, if I have to make a decision among the three options above. I would
suggest my best friend choose a clothes shop. There are several reasons for my
choice. First of all, my best friend has learned about fashion so she is constantly
updating about new trends and styles. It is clearly that she is a connoisseur(con
nơ sơr) of: người am hiểu fashion and has numerous knowledge in this field so
starting a clothing business is extremely suitable for her. Secondly, fashion is a
topic that has the strongest appeal(ơ piu): hấp dẫn of all ages, especially
teenagers who are willing to spend lots of money to buy clothes to keep up with
the world’s trends and to express their personality. If my best friend runs a
clothes shop, it will help her get massive profit: lợi nhuận from selling them
and she will succeed in her own business.

From my point of view, opening a bookshop is also good but it is not

feasible(phi zơ bồ): không khả thi. It can be seen that Vietnamese people
rarely read books so spending money to buy a book may not happen. Besides,
the strong growth of online book sites makes everyone tend to read online
instead of reading books.
The risks of a food stall are very large. If my best friend wants to open it, she
has to make sure that all the food will be sold out within a day. Otherwise, the
food will be spoiled and will have to be thrown away. It will lead to financial
loss in business.

To sum up, from my point of view, opening a clothes shop is the most ideal way
for her when she wants to start a business.

7. Situation: You are thinking of ways of passing time on a long journey by

train on your own.
- Talking to other people
- Reading books
- Sleeping
Which do you think is the best option?

Well, if I have to make a decision among the three options above, I would
choose talking to other people in order to pass time on a long journey by train.
There are several reasons for my choice. Firstly, it’s the best way to tighten
/ˈtaɪ.tən/ relationships among people. If I comfortable /ˈkʌm.fə.tə.bəl/ talking
to people around me, I not only have an additional companion during my trip,
but also be able to create a new acquaintance and have a great relationship with
them in the future. Secondly, talking to other people on a long journey can make
the atmosphere interesting and vibrant(vai-b-rừn): sôi động, which helps me
dispel (dispeo)/dɪˈspel/ boredom. I simply tell funny jokes or share a bit about
my life with those around me. The trip is sure to be full of fun.

About reading books, personally I think it's a good idea. However, it can waste
my time. When people are addicted to books, they don’t go out to chat. They
always sit to read a book and pay attention to read it without doing anything, so
it is not interesting during the trip.

I don’t choose sleeping because I cannot socialize with everyone and I want to
have a memorable time with everyone.

To sum up, from my point of view, talking to other people is the most ideal way
for me to pass time on a long journey by train.
8. Situation: You are a student and you want to do a summer job where you
can practice your English.

If i have to choose among a job at a English center, a travel agency or an

English restaurant to not only make money but also improve my English skills. I
would definitely opt for a job at an english center for several reasons

First of all, my major is pedagogy, so if there is a temporary summer job related to

my major I would be really jubilant.(zu bi lừn) /'dʒu:bilənt/. At the English center, I
will have the opportunity to practice English with many people: native teachers,
colleagues, students. It helps my studies at school and my future job.

Working at a travel agency is an ideal job, as with this job, I can practice many
skills: Communication skills, Problem-solving skills, Interpersonal skills. There
will be many times and situations to help me practice my language, a rewarding
job.But this job seems overwhelming for my current capacity, Customer
satisfaction is still the number 1 priority. I will choose this job when I am
confident enough to introduce full cultural value to sightseeing.
Work environment at the restaurant is pretty good because I can interact with
many foreigners with different accents from many countries around the
world.However, the communication in restaurants will be limited to some topics
such as:ordering, booking, paying, ... it is not suitable for the main major which
I am studying, I will not have many opportunities to improve English skills
For all reasons I put above, I choose a job at an English center as the best choice
for me

9. Situation: Your university is about to build more facilities to improve

students’ activities outside classroom. You are asked to do a survey to
choose your most wanted facility.

Which do you think is the best option?
Answer: Well, if I have to make a decision among the three options above, I
would choose to build the library. There are several reasons for my choice.
Firstly, libraries are perfect spaces for study, since they allow you to have all the
necessary material on hand. If the textbook is no longer sufficient / səˈfɪʃ. ə nt /
to provide in-depth knowledge, the library will provide students with additional
materials - a necessary condition for writing research papers and implementing
projects. Books presented by famous scholars are much easier to find in
libraries than on the internet. Secondly, the library is a quiet space with limited
distractions. A quiet space can help you focus better on the document you're
reading or working on.
About the canteen, personally I think it's a good idea. Although the canteen is
very convenient for a lot of people who don't want to go out to eat. However, if
it's time to eat you don't get there quickly, there won't be a place for you to sit.
Moreover, you can't choose off-menu dishes because the menus are fixed ahead
of time.
I don’t choose to build a swimming pool because the initial purchase and
installation costs are high. Furthermore, we are exposed to large amounts of
chlorine(clo rin) /ˈklɔː.riːn/: clo which is not healthy as it can cause headaches,
dry skin and eye irritation /ˌɪr.ɪˈteɪ.ʃən/: kích ứng.
To sum up, from my point of view, building the library is the best choice for
me.

10. Situation: Some of your friends are visiting you this weekend. You
would like to do something fun with them.
- Cooking a meal together in your apartment
- Going to a local bookshop together
- Taking your friends out for sightseeing
Which do you think is the best option?
Well, if I have to make a decision among the three options above, I would
choose cooking a meal together in my apartment. There are several reasons for
my choice. First of all, my friends and I are fond of cooking. We like to make
our own cooking dishes, prepare ingredients and do things together that will be
so much fun. Maybe from there we can connect and understand each other more
than we ever knew. Secondly, my friends usually prefer to eat at home to go out
and spend time together while still saving money. Additionally, cooking at
home will ensure healthy dishes for everyone and avoid food- related illnesses
such as eating out.
About taking my friends out for sightseeing, personally I think it's a good idea.
However, the weather at this time of the year is not really beautiful, it is
inconvenient to hang out in the rain. Both my friends and I hate getting wet
when we go out, so when we go somewhere we have to watch the weather
forecast before we decide to go.
I don’t choose to go to a local bookshop together because we are on break,
right, so we just want to have a good time together and stay away from letters or
something like that if we go to a local bookshop.
To sum up, from my point of view, cooking a meal together in my apartment is
the most ideal choice for me when my friends visit me.
