Diet and Nutrition

Diet and nutrition play a crucial role in maintaining overall health and well-
being. Eating a balanced diet provides the body with essential nutrients,
vitamins, and minerals needed for growth, energy, and disease prevention.

What is a Balanced Diet? A balanced diet includes a variety of food groups

in the right proportions. The key components of a balanced diet are:

 Carbohydrates: Provide energy (e.g., rice, bread, pasta, fruits).

 Proteins: Help in growth and repair (e.g., meat, fish, eggs, beans,
nuts).
 Fats: Provide energy and support cell function (e.g., nuts, seeds, olive
oil, fish).
 Vitamins and Minerals: Essential for various body functions (e.g.,
vegetables, fruits, dairy products).
 Water: Keeps the body hydrated and supports digestion and
circulation.

Importance of Good Nutrition

1. Boosts Immunity: A nutritious diet strengthens the immune system,

reducing the risk of infections.

2. Maintains Healthy Weight: Eating the right portions helps in weight

management.

3. Improves Mental Health: Proper nutrition positively affects mood

and brain function.

4. Prevents Diseases: A good diet reduces the risk of chronic illnesses

like diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.

5. Increases Energy Levels: Nutrients provide the necessary energy for

daily activities.
