Detailed Lesson Plan in MATH

GRADE 6

I. Objectives

At the end of 45 minutes period, the students are expected to:

a. Define the speed, distance and time

b. Appreciate the importance of the speed, distance and time through giving example of experience

c. Compute the speed, distance and time of the problem.

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: Speed, Distance and Time

b. Reference: 21st Century MATHletes by perez, et al. p. 253-259

c. Materials: Visual aids, board, TV

d. Strategy: 4A's

e. Approach: learner centered approach

f. Skills Integration: reasoning skills

g. Values Integration: cooperation and respect

h. Subject Integration: Values Education

III. Procedure:

Teacher's Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities:

Teacher's Activity
1. Prayer
2. Checking of attendance
3. Checking of classroom setting
4. Recapitulation

• What is the topic we discussed last (the answer will be the last topic discussed)
meeting?

5. Motivation

NJDUmCP-edPSfj
• The teacher will play a “Mathematics
Dance” on the TV screen and make the
pupils dance.

B. Developmental Activities

A. Activity
-All of you will be group into 3. Row 1 will
be Group 1, row 2 will be Group 2 and
row 3 will be Group 3.
-For this activity we will play a game
called “PICTOWORD”.

-In PICTOWORD, each group will guess a

word or phrase based on two pictures
that represents it. Form a word base on
the given letters and pictures.

-For example, a picture of a “Sun” and a

“flower” might represent “sunflower.”
-Are the instructions clear?

-Are you ready?!

-Yes, ma’am!

-SPEED

-DISTANCE!

-TIME
-Very good! Now let us all give ourselves
5 claps!

B. Analysis

-What did you observe in our activity? Sample answer: It's all about speed, distance and
time.

-What is speed, distance and time? Sample answer: Speed is fast or slow moving,
distance is the far or near of the place and time is
the happening hour, minute or second.

Sample answer: Yes because it is made by God

-Is it important? why? and we need to study this because it is in
everywhere so we need to be aware.

Yes, ma’am.

C. Abstraction
-Let us find out what is speed, distance -Yes ma’am.
and time really mean, are you now
ready?

-Will you please read the definition of -Speed is a scalar quantity that refers to "how fast
speed? an object is moving." Speed can be thought of as
the rate by which an object covers distance.
-Very good.

(The teacher will give an example about

average speed)

Example 1: If a car travels 100 kilometers

in 2 hours, find the average speed.

Solution: Using the average speed

formula.

Average speed= Distance

Time
= 100
2
=50 kph

-Answer: The average speed of the car is

50 kph.
-Will you please read and answer the -Example 2: Roy drives at an average of 45 mph
example 2? on a journey of 135miles. How long does the
journey take?

Solution: using the average speed formula.

Speed= distance
Time
= 135 miles
45 mph
= 3 hours

-Very good. -Answer: The journey takes 3 hours.

-What is the importance of speed? -Sample answer: The importance of speed is to

make our work faster and we can go to the place
in a short of time like going to the school, I walk
fast to arrive on time.
-Very good.
-Distance is the total length between two
-Will you please read the definition of positions. Distance is the amount of space
distance? between two objects or the state of being far
apart.
-Very good.

(The teacher will give an example about

distance)

-Example 3: Lemuel's motorcycle's

average speed on a motorcycle is 50
km/h. If he drives it for 4 hours, how far
does he travel?

Solution: using the formula to find the

distance.

Distance= speed x time

= 50 x 4
= 200 kilometers

-answer: he can travel the distance of 200

kilometers.
-will you please read and answer the -Example 4: Sean drove 20 km/h for 2 hours,
example 4? what was the distance Sean traveled?

Solution: using the formula to find the distance.

Distance= speed x time

=20 x 2
= 40 kilometers

Answer: Sean traveled was 40 kilometers.

-Very good
Sample answer: The distance is important to
-what is the importance of distance? know if the place we wanted to go is far or near.
Example going to school if you are near you just
need to walk to save a money.

-will you please read the definition of Time is the quantity measured or measurable
time? period during which an action, process, or
condition exists or continues.
-very good

-the formula to find time is

Time= Distance
Speed

-(the teacher will give an example about

time)

-Example 5: Alex wants to travel a 360

miles town; his car can run 60 miles an
hour. How long will it take Alex to reach
the town?

Time= 360 miles

60 miles\hour
= 6 hours

-Will you please read and answer the -A plane flies at 400 km\hr. and travels 1600 km.
example 6? How long did the flight take?
Time= 1600
400
= 4 hours
-very good

-Sample answer: The time is very important to

-what is the importance of time? guide us on what we are doing and we need to
use it properly because time is gold and it is the
most precious gift from God that we received
because our life depends in our time. Example if
-very good you have an assignment or project do it
immediately to use your time wisely.
-(the teacher will show a diagram)

-What is the diagram show? Sample answer: The diagram shows that to easily
remember the formula in getting speed, distance
and time.

Distance speed x time

Speed distance / time

Time= distance / speed

-Excellent

-Do you have any questions? Sample answer: None ma’am.

-Let us proceed to our next activity.

D. Application

A. Directions: Calculate the distance. Use

the formula (D= S x T)
1. 3 hours at 40 km/h 1. D= S x T
= 3 x 40
= 120 km

B. Directions: Calculate the time. Use the

formula (T=D/S)

2. 200 kilometers at 20 km/hr 2. T= D\S

= 200\20
C. Directions: Calculate the speed. Use = 10 hours
the formula (S= D/T)

3. 30 meters in 10 seconds 3. S= D\T

= 30\10
= 10 m\secs.

IV. Evaluation:

Solve each problem.

1. Mhar took a 5-hour bicycle trip. In all, he traveled 120 kilometers. What was his average rate of
speed? 24 km/h

2. Rolly travels from Lucena City to Manila every Saturday to visit his mother. The trip takes 3.5 hours and
he usually travel at an average rate of 64 km/h. How many kilometers does Rolly travel from Lucena City
to Manila? 224 kilometers

3. Wilfredo can write 200 words in 5 minutes. Calculate his writing speed in:

a. words per minute = 40

b. words per hour = 2,400

V. Assignment:

Solve the problem.

1. Alfred drives for 11/2 hours at 75 km/h, then drives 120 kilometers at 60 km/h, and finally
drives for 30 minutes at 65 km/h. Calculate his average speed for the whole journey?
