Formatting

What is a Master Slide?


A Master Slide is a special slide that controls the design and layout
of all other slides in your PowerPoint presentation. It helps keep everything
looking neat and consistent.

1 Open PowerPoint
 Click on the PowerPoint icon to open the program.
 Choose Blank Presentation or open an existing file.

2 Go to the Slide Master View


 Click on the View tab at the top.
 Select Slide Master from the menu.

3 Find the Master Slide


 The first (top) slide is the Master Slide.
 The smaller slides below are layout slides (for different types of
content).

4 Adding Headers and Footers to your master slide.


 In the left-hand pane, click on the top slide (the Master Slide) to
edit it.
 Click on the Insert tab in the top menu.
 Select Header & Footer from the ribbon.
In the pop-up window:
 Check Slide number to add page numbers.
 Check Footer and type your text (e.g., your name or
presentation title).
 Check Date and time if you want to add this.
 Click Apply to All to save changes to all slides.
Move or resize the footer and slide number text boxes if needed.

5 Exit Slide Master View


 Click Close Master View in the Slide Master tab to return to
your presentation.

Check Your Slides
 Scroll through your slides to see the headers and footers applied.

6 Change the Background on your master slide.


 Right-click on the Master Slide and select Format Background.
 Choose your preferred background (solid color, gradient, picture,
or pattern).
 Adjust settings as needed.
 Click Apply to All to set the background for all slides.

7 Add a Logo or Image/Picture to your master slide.


Insert an Image:
 Go to the Master Slide (View > Slide Master).
 Click Insert > Pictures > Choose "This Device" or "Online
Pictures."
 Select your image and click Insert.
Resize the Image:
 Click on the image to select it.
 Drag the corner handles (small circles) to resize. Hold Shift to
keep proportions.
Rotate the Image:
 Select the image.
 Click and drag the rotation handle (circular arrow above the
image) to rotate.
Flip the Image:
 Select the image.
 Go to Picture Format > Rotate > Choose "Flip Horizontal" or
"Flip Vertical."
Crop the Image:
 Select the image.
 Click Picture Format > Crop.
 Drag the black handles to crop, then press Enter.
Make the Image Transparent:
 Select the image.
 Go to Picture Format > Transparency > Choose a preset or
adjust manually.
Exit Master Slide:
 Click Close Master View to return to your presentation.
Position your image/logo in a corner so it appears on every
slide.

8 Insert a Shape into your master slide:
 In the Slide Master view, select the Insert tab.
 Click on Shapes and choose a shape from the menu.
Format the Shape:
 With the shape selected, go to the Format tab.
 Use options like Shape Fill, Shape Outline, and Shape
Effects to customize the appearance.
Resize or Move the Shape:
 Click and drag the corners to resize.
 Click and drag the shape to move it.
Exit Slide Master:
 Click Close Master View to return to your normal slides.
Check Your Slide:
 The shape will now appear on all slides based on the master slide
design.

9 Edit Fonts and Text Styles


 Click on a text box in the Master Slide.
 Change the font, size, or color—this will apply to all slides.
1 Customize Slide Layouts

 Click on different layout slides below the Master Slide.
 Edit titles, text boxes, or design elements for specific slide types.

1 Add or Remove Placeholders


1 A placeholder is a temporary box/place where you will eventually put in your text, graphics,
or video.

 Click Insert Placeholder to add a box for text, pictures, or


charts.
 Delete any placeholders you don’t need.
1 Apply a Theme

 Click on Themes in the Slide Master tab.
 Choose a theme to quickly change the design of all slides.

1 Save Your Design

 Click Close Master View (top-right of the Slide Master tab).

 Save your presentation to keep the changes.
