Election Guidelines_ 2025
1. Current first year students are allowed to stand for the post of General Secretary and Treasurer,
and the current second year students are allowed to stand for the post of President and Cultural
Secretary.
2. Each candidate is permitted to file nomination for one post only.
3. The Candidate is required to demonstrate sincerity and commitment to the ethos of the college
through regular attendance with a minimum of 50% (Medical/ECA to be taken into account)
4. Each candidate must be nominated by a current 3rd year student and seconded by a current 2nd year
student of the college. The student nominating or seconding has to sign against their name on
the nomination form, failing which the form will be rejected.
No student can nominate or second more than one candidate. The names of the students who are
nominating/seconding must not be announced or displayed on the publicity material. The
nomination forms should be submitted online as per the schedule which will be released later.
The elected representatives in the college cannot nominate or second any candidate- Currently
Serving or newly elected executive bodies of department, societies, cells, NSS, NSO, NCC.
5. The forms should be submitted within the said deadline and time, failing to which the nomination
will be cancelled. NO EXCEPTIONS MADE.
6. Each candidate is permitted to have a five-member Core Team. The elected and selected
representatives are permitted to be on the core team of the candidates. All 5 names have to be
mentioned in the nomination form, failing to which new members can’t be co-opted (only
declared names will be permitted to be core members). The names of the core team members
should not be displayed on any of the publicity materials.
7. Each Candidate is permitted to have a maximum of five posters/props including one agenda
poster. One Agenda Poster is compulsory. The Agenda Poster is supposed to have the agenda
of the candidate as per mentioned on the nomination form verbatim. The Size for agenda poster
cannot exceed two posters of 4*2 ft which will be displayed on the rolling boards/huts.
The maximum size of the other posters/props in will be limited to the total size equivalent of
four chart papers put together.
No changes will be allowed on the posters/props after display. The posters should go up as per
the date and time mentioned in the Election Schedule.
8. Usage of adhesive materials or nails on college property is strictly prohibited. All the
candidates should ensure that the college property is not damaged. This could lead to
cancellation of your candidature
9. Distribution of Pamphlets/badges and other publicity materials or any kinds of gifts to students is
strictly prohibited.
Students found violating the social media campaign guidelines will face punitive measures:
a) All candidates can seek support for themselves or for others through text messages ONLY to
individuals and not to any groups/communities. (no status/stories or posts allowed on any social
media platforms), and ONLY on/through WhatsApp and SMS and email.
b) No mass publicity is allowed in any form (videos, reels, stories) on any social media platforms
other than the ones stated above.
c) Should candidates fail to adhere to the above and are found to be engaged in online
canvassing beyond the ones mentioned, a public formal warning will be issued the first time.
f) The third time such unauthorized campaigning/canvassing on social media will lead to
debarring of the candidature.
11. If a candidate fails to attend the formal confrontation, no other person can represent them and the
candidate's candidature will stand cancelled.
12.Class to class campaigning, Joint campaigning, Distribution of money and gifts or any kind of
favor or promises will lead to DISQUALIFICATION of the candidate from the elections.
13. Hiding any material information, misrepresentation or misleading information that may unduly
affect the candidature will lead to the disqualification of the candidate.
14. Candidates are requested to refrain from expensive campaigning. Expenditure of above 2500/-
INR on the entire campaign is strictly not permitted. Receipts will have to be submitted prior to
the elections. The date will be specified later.
15. No candidate shall indulge in, nor shall abet, any activity, which may aggravate existing
differences or create mutual hatred or cause tension between different castes and communities,
religious or linguistic, or between any group(s) of students.
16. Critique of other candidates, when made, shall be confined to their policies and programs, and
work. Candidates shall refrain from criticism of all aspects of personal life, not connected with
the public activities of the other candidates or supporters of such other candidates. Criticism of
other candidates, or their supporters based on unverified sources or distortion has to be avoided.
17. There shall be no appeal to students on the basis of caste, class, gender, region, disability or religion
for securing votes.
18.A Grievance Cell will deal with all election related grievances. This Cell will be guided by
the recommendations of the Lyngdoh committee report.
