Definitions

Action Verbs- Words that show action.


Linking Verb- Words that connect the subject to more information about it.
Linking verbs connect the subject of a sentence to a word or phrase, they don’t
show action.

The verb "to be" is called that because it expresses existence, identity, or state
of being. It does not show action but rather describes or links the subject to
more information.
 I am a student. (Shows identity)
 She is tired. (Describes state/condition)
 They are in the classroom. (Shows location)

  "To be" = Links a subject to a description (She is happy. ✅)



  "To have" = Shows possession or experience (She has a car. ✅
  I have a pet. (Shows possession)
  She has two brothers. (Shows family relationship)

  They have a great idea. (Shows something they hold in their mind)
