What is intellectual property?
Intellectual property (IP) refers to the creations of human, such as inventions, literary and
artistic works, designs, etc. It also includes intangible creation of the human intellect for
example your ideas. Intellectual property rights can be used to protect assets and for
branding.
Here are three rights that are protected by intellectual property loss:
1. Patent
A patent provides the patent owner with the right to decide whether or not the
invention can be used by others and how can it be used. In order to get this right, the
technical information about the invention has to be displayed publicly available in the
published patent document by the patent owner.

2. Trademark
A trademark is a recognizable design, sign, or expression that makes it easy to identify
certain goods or services that are provided or produced by a specific individual or a
company. For example, Royal Castle, adidas, Nike, and Samsung logos are all
trademark used to identify the product.
3. Copyrights
Copyright is the legal term used by creators to describe the right they have over their
work. Some creations that have copyright are books, music, painting, films, maps,
technical drawings just to name a few. To avoid any problems with creators, persons
when using music they do not own often mention that do not own any copyright to the
music being played in backgrounds.
4. Industrial designs
Industrial design refers to the appearance of a product and may consist of tree-
dimensional features, such as the shape or surface of a product or two-dimensional
features, such as patterns, lines or colours. These features are used to distinguish the
product from others that are in the same category. These features also give the product
a more attractive and appealing look that often draws the eyes of customers making
them wanting to buy. Industrial designs apply to watches, vehicles, textile designs,
etc.

Plagiarism
What is plagiarism?
Plagiarism is when another person uses someone else’s work as their own without
giving the original owner credit for their work or citing the source. For example,
including a direct quote without quotation marks.
After concluding the last guideline on plagiarism, the researcher realised that they had to cite
their source of these information to avoid plagiarism.
