Homework Assignment #5
(Fall 2024)
Assigned: Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024 — Due: Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024 (By: 6pm on MS Teams)

P ROBLEM 1
Using the table below, compute the modulation bandwidth efficiency for each of the given systems.

P ROBLEM 2
What is the processing gain for a spread spectrum system at a 10 Kb/s data if the chips are of 0.1µsec duration?

P ROBLEM 3
Answer the following questions:
(a) What is the relationship between the bandwidth of a signal before and after it has been encoded using spread
spectrum?
(b) What is the relationship between the bit rate of a signal before and after it has been encoded using DSSS?
(c) Explain the difference between autocorrelation and cross-correlation.

P ROBLEM 4
An FHSS system employs a total bandwidth of W = 400 MHz and an individual channel bandwidth of 100 Hz.
What is the minimum number of PN bits required for each frequency hop?

P ROBLEM 5
Demonstrate that the codes in an 8 × 8 Walsh matrix are orthogonal to each other by showing that multiplying
any code by any other code produces a result of zero.

P ROBLEM 6
An FH-SS system uses a 4-bit PN sequence. Assuming the bit-rate of the PN sequence is 64 bits/s:
(a) What is the total number of possible hops?
(b) What is number of finished cycles per time of PN sequence?
