Please read this document carefully. Incomplete applications (lacking the requested documentation and
signatures) will not be accepted.
The Master’s Degree programme in Data Science is part of the LM Data-Data Science class.
The programme’s aim is to train professionists capable of using mathematical, statistical and IT techniques
within public and private companies and administrations, including scientific and technological research
institutes.
The access to the Master's Degree programme requires passing a test and an interview, aimed at verifying specific
curricular requirements and the adequacy of personal preparation.
Curricular Requirements
In order to be eligible, it is required:
a Bachelor's Degree (or a three-year university diploma), or a Master’s Degree or a foreign academic qualification
recognised as appropriate by the University, in compliance with ministerial regulations on the subject and in
application on the bilateral agreements in force. Academic qualifications must be achieved by December 22nd
2023.
- at least 30 CFUs in the following academic disciplines:
- INF/01 (Computer Science - Informatics);
- ING-INF/05 (Information processing systems);
- From SECS-S/01 to SECS-S/06 (Statistics, Statistics for Experimental and Technological Research,
Economic Statistics, Demography, Social Statistics, Mathematical Methods of Economy, Finance and
Actuarial Sciences;
- From MAT/01 to MAT/09 (Mathematical Logic, Algebra, Geometry, Complementary Mathematics,
Mathematical Analysis, Probability and Mathematical Statistics, Mathematical Physics, Numerical
Analysis, Operational Research);
- From FIS/01 to FIS/08 (Experimental Physics, Theoretical Physics, Mathematical Models and Methods,
Physics of Matter, Nuclear and Subnuclear Physics, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Physics of the Earth
and of the Circumterrestrial Medium, Applied Physics);
- English language proficiency at a level not lower than B2 (Common European Framework).
PLEASE NOTE: Foreign qualifications will be assessed on the basis of the documentation provided in the
online application.

The test final score is determined as follows:
- 1 point for each correct answer;
- - 0.25 for each wrong answer;
- 0 points for each unanswered question.
Students who achieve a final score of at least 22, scoring at least 9 points for each set of questions are admitted
to the interview.
During the interview the examination committee may recommend readings to deepen specific topics.
Test topics, didactic materials and sample questions will be available on the E-learning page of the degree
programme.
Test exemption
The assessment of the personal preparation will be made exclusively by interview for candidates:
- who achieved, or are obtaining, a Bachelor's Degree belonging to the following classes: L-31 (Computer
Science), L-8 (Information Technology Engineering), L-41 (Statistics), L-30 (Physics), L-35
(Mathematics) or a related Master’s Degree or an equivalent foreign qualification recognised as
appropriate by the University, in compliance with ministerial regulations on the subject and in application
on the bilateral agreements in force. For graduate students a grade of 90/110 or higher is required for the
test exemption, for graduating students at least a 24.5 point average is requested (weighted average of
marks obtained in examinations and their value in CFUs);
- who achieved or are obtaining a Bachelor's Degree belonging to a class other than those indicated above.
For graduate candidates at least a grade of 90/110 is required. Graduating applicants must have achieved
at least a 24.5 grade point average (weighted average of marks obtained in examinations and their value
in CFUs). Candidates must have obtained, within the total 30 CFUs in the academic disciplines
mentioned before (see the Curricular Requirements paragraph):
- at least 6 CFUs in at least one of the following academic disciplines: SECS-S/01 to SECS-S/06,
MAT/06 and MAT/09;
- at least 6 CFUs in at least one of the following academic disciplines: INF/01 or ING-INF/05.
PLEASE NOTE: The test exemption of students holding foreign qualifications will be assessed by the
examination board.
Applicants living at least 100 km away from the University of Milano-Bicocca, those who are away from home
for documented study or work activities, those who are prevented from attending the interview for documented
health reasons or foreign candidates may ask the examination committee to arrange their interview by
teleconference.
Students who have achieved or will achieve a degree by December 22nd 2023 may apply.

Eligible applicants will be informed whether they have to take the test or are exempted.
Candidates who have successfully passed the test, or were exempted, will be contacted to attend the interview.
2. How to apply
All candidates are required to apply via the Online Registry (Segreterie OnLine), the digital platform of the
University of Milano – Bicocca:

2.1 Registration on the Online Student Registry platform (first access only)

Candidates must enter their personal information by selecting “Registration” in the Online Student Registry and
then follow the procedure.
Registration may only be performed once. Foreign candidates without a tax code can register and must select
“Foreign student without tax code”.
Once registration is completed, the user name assigned by the system and the chosen personal password will
enable the candidate to login (to recover lost passwords go to: https://self.unimib.it/landing/#/reset/request )
Please note: after authentication, candidates will receive an email confirming registration at the email address
they provided during registration. Definitive account activation may require up to 24 hours, after reception of the
email confirming registration. Please avoid a last-minute registration for the procedure here described.
2.2 Application
Candidates must login at the following website using their personal credentials: Segreteria Online.
Select in the menu “Home”, “Evaluation Test”; then choose the Master's Degree in “Data Science” from the list,
then complete the application with the required data and documents.
During registration applicants are required to upload the following documents:

Candidates are recommended to prepare their documentation in advance.

b) if applicants earned an Italian Degree (from other Universities):
1. Self-certification of their transcript of records with marks and credits. If the self-certification
from their university is not available the following form must be filled out: SUBSTITUTIVE
DECLARATION OF CERTIFICATION OF UNIVERSITY ENROLMENT – GRADUATION
– PASSED EXAMS - (article n. 46 of the Italian DPR 445, 28/12/2000);
(PLEASE NOTE: SELF-CERTIFICATIONS MUST BE SIGNED - CERTIFICATES
ISSUED BY OTHER ITALIAN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATIONS WILL NOT BE
ACCEPTED)
2. Other titles and/or certifications of relevant activities, if any;
3. B2 level English certification (see the section below about English certifications).
Documents listed under points 1-2-3-4-5-7 MUST be uploaded in the Online Registry during the application
process. The requested document at point 6, if not uploaded during application, must be sent to the Welcome
Desk ([email protected]) within 45 days from the enrolment date. The Foreign Students Office will carry
out the verification of the point 6 within the following 120 days. Failure to submit such documentation will entail
the suspension of the student’s career.

Citizens of non-EU countries legally residing in Italy may only self-certify (in Italian or English) conditions,
facts and personal qualities that can be certified or attested to by Italian public entities.
Regardless of the assessment of academic suitability of candidates for University courses, completing a
university course at the University of Milano-Bicocca is linked to the issuing of a visa by consular diplomatic
representatives and in all cases it shall be in accordance with the provisions of the ministerial note that regulates
the entry of non-EU citizens into Italy for study purposes each year.

Students whose visa request is still pending may take online classes (if available) and access the material that
will be made available on the university’s E-learning platform, but they are not allowed to take exams.
Please note: exams will be held in presence only.
2.5 Citizens of the People's Republic of China participating in the Marco Polo Programme - Application
When filling out the application for evaluation, candidates from the People’s Republic of China partaking in
the Marco Polo Programme must upload the mandatory documentation on the “Management of qualifications
and documents for evaluation” page:
- a certificate issued by a certifying Body recognised by our University (see the list available on the same
webpage as this notice), equivalent to level B2 (or higher levels);
- Only for students with an Italian Degree: a self-certification (using the form “Personal Sworn

in one of the following academic disciplines: L-LIN/10, L-LIN/11, L-LIN/12;
- the Bbetween English B2 Open Badge (or higher levels) awarded by the University of Milano-Bicocca;
- a declaration of the University of origin, certifying that the attended degree programme is entirely or
almost entirely taught in the English language.
2.8 Questionnaire
At the end of the application process, candidates who have not yet earned their degree have to fill in a
Questionnaire for Admission. After that candidates may exit from the Questionnaire page and normally continue
the application procedure.
The questionnaire must be confirmed.
Once the process is completed all candidates may print the receipt of their admission applications.
Enrolment will be possible starting from the day after the list of admitted candidates is published.
Students must enrol by October 27th 2023 following the required procedures, they will be able to take exams
only after completing enrolment.
Please note: Graduand students expecting to achieve the academic qualification by December 22nd 2023
must enrol by October 27th 2023. Their new academic career will only be effective after graduation.
- Graduand students from other Italian Universities are required to self-certify their degree after
graduation by sending the “Personal Sworn Declaration of University enrolment, qualifications, exams”
to [email protected], with an identity document scan, by January 15th 2024. The form
can be downloaded from the following page: SUBSTITUTIVE DECLARATION OF CERTIFICATION
OF UNIVERSITY ENROLMENT – GRADUATION – PASSED EXAMS - (article n. 46 of the Italian
DPR 445, 28/12/2000) (it is mandatory to fill in only the part regarding qualification details).
- Graduand students from the University of Milano-Bicocca must in any case enrol by October 27th
2023, their Master's Degree career will be automatically activated at the end of their three-year degree
programme.
- Graduand students from foreign universities must enrol no later than October 27th 2023. After
graduation, as soon as possible, they will have to send to [email protected] a copy of their
bachelor’s degree and a scanned identity document.
Students from the University of Milano-Bicocca or other Universities who will graduate between
March 1st and March 29th 2024.
These students cannot be admitted to the Master’s degree for 2023/24 academic year, but they will be allowed to

enroll in the second term’s single courses of 2023/24 academic year for up to a maximum of 30 CFUs, paying
30.00 Euros per CFU, as established by the Board of Directors. If they enrol in the 2024/2025 Master’s degree
program these students will have the opportunity to ask for the transfer of credits obtained by passing single
courses.
