Class X Maths Project 25-26

The document outlines a mathematics project for Class X at Cathedral High School, focusing on data representation, analysis, and interpretation using nutritional data from 50 cereal products. Students are instructed to create frequency distribution tables, calculate means, draw cumulative frequency tables and ogive curves, and analyze data for specific dietary recommendations. Additionally, the project includes a section on banking, requiring students to research bank accounts and interest rates, solve related problems, and compile their findings in a structured project book.

THE CATHEDRAL HIGH SCHOOL

MATHEMATICS PROJECT (2025-26)

Class X

Topic 1:-Data Representation, analysis and interpretation

You have been provided with nutritional data of 50 cereal products. You are required to
analyse the data and interpret to complete this section of your project. Follow these steps.
Step:1- Take a print out of the given data below and stick it in your first page of your project
book
Step:2 – Now, using this data, taking class intervals for the calories of each cereal product as
50-60,60-70……….150-160, using tally marks (learnt in 9th) create a frequency distribution
table for the given brands.
Step:3- Using Step deviation method, calculate the mean of the frequency table so obtained
in step 2.
Step :4 – Now, for the same data, create a cumulative frequency table and draw an ogive
curve to obtain the following
a) Median
b) Lower quartile
c) Upper quartile
d) Inter quartile range
Step: 5- Open excel and copy this table created in step 2 containing the headers Calories-No
of brands, use excel to create a histogram for this data. Mark the axis, titles and headers
(Watch a YouTube video for reference). Take a printout of this histogram.
Step:6- Using the histogram, obtain the modal class and the mode of the distribution. Record
your answers. The histogram will have to be stuck on the left side of your project book.
Step:8- Using the data provided in this document and the frequency table created by you as
reference, analyse and answer the following.
a) Adel has been diagnosed with Beriberi, recommend one of the cereal products that
can be consumed by Aden as one of the options to overcome the deficiency causing it.
b) Jim, a university student as a part of his physical fitness plan, decides to bulk up, for
which his gym trainer advices him to consume high calorie foods. Suggest a cereal
product for Jim.
c) Using the ogive curve drawn by you, find the number of brands that produces cereal
products below 100 calories.
d) From the data set, suggest a product with maximum fibre intake with highest
customer rating.
Topic 2:- On Banking
Step:1- Understand the different types of bank account and write a short note on each
highlighting its purpose (eg- Savings, current account etc).
Step:2 – Visit any 5 banks in your locality (private or national). Collect the data on the rate
of interest offered by these banks for a Recurring deposit account.
Step:3- Using the above data collected by you, solve these problems.
Q1. Using the rate of interest of Bank-1, find the maturity value you will receive, if you plan
to invest ₹2000 per month for a period of 2 years from now.
Q2. Using the rate of interest of Bank-2, if Mr. Anmol deposits ₹900 per month for a certain
period of time. If he gets ₹52,020 at the time of maturity. Find the time in months.
Q3. Sam deposits a sum of money, using the rate of interest of Bank-3, he gets ₹8088 from
the bank after 3 years. Find the value of his monthly instalment.
Q4. Using the largest and the smallest rate of interest offered by the banks surveyed by you,
calculate the difference in the MV you will receive, if you invest a sum of ₹5000 every month
for a period of 2 years.

Instructions to students:-
Use a project book provided by the school to complete this project. Your project should
comprise of the following subsections

b) Topic -1
• Data set
• Frequency distribution table (Tally marks)
• Calculation for mean (all steps shown)
• Step -4 calculations (table, graphs to be shown)
• Histogram stuck on the left side, with mode calculations and the answers
recorded alongside.
• Analyse and interpret the questions asked. ( questions to be copied)
c) Topic -2 –
• Types of account and their description
• Name the banks and ROI offered by them, tabulate if wanted.
• Solve the questions neatly, all calculations to be shown.
d) Acknowledgment
e) Bibliography [mention all sources, tools used along with Gen-AI usage(if any),
declare the prompts used]
Note- You can round off your final answers.
Submission date- 10th June, 2025.
