1) Identify five subject-verb agreement forms correctly from several sentences.
2) Correct subject-verb agreement mistakes accurately in a passage.
3) Construct 4 sentences with subject-verb agreement rule correctly in various sentence structures.

Warm-up: Should I stand or should I sit?
• T instructs Ss about this activity.
• T says, “Everyone, this activity is called “Should I stand or should I sit?” I will 5 min LCD
give you a sentence with a blank and 2 answers for everyone to choose from. If Projector and
your answer is on the blue ball, you have to stand up, and if your answer is on the PowerPoint
red ball, you remain seated. Are you clear, everyone?” slides

Technique 1: Rule Formulation


• T briefly explains the definition of subject-verb agreement.
• Ss are put into 5 groups.

• Rule 1: "Either of/Neither of" + plural noun + singular verb (Ex: "Neither of the

• Rule 2: "Every/Each" + subject + singular verb (Ex: "Each person does his own
job").
• Rule 3: "Neither/Either + singular subj. + nor/or + singular subj. + singular
verb" (Ex: "Neither Tom nor his friend is going").
• Rule 4: "Neither/Either + singular subj. + nor/or + plural subj. + plural verb"
(Ex: "Neither Tom nor his friends are going").
• Rule 5: "All/Some/Majority etc. + singular/uncountable noun + singular verb"
(Ex: "Most of the house was burnt.").
• Ss are given 10 minutes to work on the task.
• Ss write their form on the whiteboard.
• T asks each group to explain their form.
• T praises and gives feedback.
• T checks Ss understanding by playing “Should I stand or should I sit” again.
Sentences:

• After 10 minutes, T asks one student from each group to write a sentence on the

• T may say, "Alright everyone, since the last activity has come to an end, let me
cover what we have learned today. "
